removing stuck caliper bolts

So I did pads/rotors for 3 of 4 wheels so far. One rear wheel was easy, 15 minutes.

The other two took HOURS, all because of the caliper mounting bracket bolts.

I broke one in the back, and the one in the front I never could get out so I had to get a whole new caliper/braket.

So I need thoughts on the last one...

I tested it tonight, tried a wrench and a socket.
Banged it with my hand, pushed...
Used some PB spray (3-4 applications) and some rust treatment and kept trying.
Tapped the bolts with a hammer on the head.

Still not budging.

Tomorrow I will probably give my air gun a try, but I just get nervous about the bolt breaking.

I have not tried heat, though I do have a torch. Heat did not work on the other bolts though.

I read on another site some people heat the bolt and apply wax (candle) as a lube...?

Any other thoughts?

What are these mechanics doing that I am not?

Sometimes there's just nothing you can do, bolts break.

What exactly are you having issues with, the caliper-torque member bolts, or torque member to knuckle?

It's the torque member bolts. I got the caliper bolts loose already. Another thought, I have a set of Irwin bolt extractors, maybe I will try those...

Heat is your best friend, especially if you can get the frozen part off. Last brake job / overhaul, I had to put a torch on one of my caliper pins for about ten solid minutes, it finally popped out like a champagne cork. Good thing I wasn't staring at it at the time

Get some Aerokroil. Call around town see if you can find some. Best lubricant ever, no questions asked. Its in a 22 oz (I think) orange can, costs about $15. Itll take em off.

Just some advice

Hey I seldom post on this forum... But, if you do get this bolt off, replace it afterwords. Don't be cheap and re-use a bolt that has been over-torqued and distorted. Go to the dealer or good auto parts store for a replacement.

Also, don't be afraid to cut off the bolt and use the extractor to get it out.

put a breaker bar on the bolt and bang the end of it with a rubber mallet and it should come losse with just a hit or 2

When I changed my rear drivers side, the bolt broke. I used a breaker bar which helped out a lot.

What exactly would be the advantage of doing that?
