I put in NGK Iridiums and like them so far....only about 2000 miles on them.....much smoother idle than the wore out NGK Rs that were in there.

The coppers are good but wear quicker.

I think the point there is that the old ones were worn out. Not sure if anyone would notice the difference in performance between new irridiums and new platinums.

I don't believe there is any performance(increased power), just the wear amount on the electrode (electrode wear rate). The coppers will wear quicker, thus needing to change more frequently.

The only thing I noticed is a better throttle response and about a mpg or 2 in fuel mileage.

Personally, they're about the same to me. I think you will get more miles out of the Iridiums through. (more resistant to spark wear than plats....IIRC)

If you need to know how to change the plugs.....here's a quick link.

Cool thanks alot , man ! You've been more than helpfull. I just didnt want to put any junk in it. Right now it spits and sputters at around 4K on the tach. I checked the plugs and they look wore but not real bad. I just bought the car so im fixing all the crap someone didnt have time to . It isnt throwing any codes so i figured i would start by replacing the plugs and fuel filter. Hopefully this will solve my problem if not i guess ill have to buy a coil and do the process of elimination, lol. After that if it still does it , i dont know. Wish me luck , lol.

I just replaced my fuel filter too.....a little suggestion....be sure to pull the fuel pump fuse and be sure to release as much pressure as you can....I didn't and got a 93 octane bath....another thing you may want to do is clean out your throttle body and change the EGR Valve. Ever since then things have been going pretty decent.

I usually use the copper NGK but my parts supply didn't have them so I went with Champion copper.

fleet farm, napa, orilleys all carry them.

But i like the cheap NGK coppers. IMHO they do the same job as the plats. Just have to change them out more. Which i really dont mind

When you are using coppers, do you regap them?....One of the mechanics I know told me the coppers are more likely to have 1 or 2 not gapped to spec out of the box. I can see some truth to this just because of the copper being softer than the platium or iridium metals....IMHO.

My internet research has put me under the impression of the following, please correct me if im wrong:
Life:
copper(30k)<plats(60k)<iridium(120k)
Good spark (some source say you'll never notice the difference - i didn't):
plats<iridium<copper
Affordability:
plats<iridium<copper

So basically, plats are better than coppers for life only. It gets trumped by Iridiums for all price, life, and spark. The ONLY reason why people get them is because they're oem which is supposed to be safe - or do they like that Nissan box? . So the only comparison is between coppers and iris, with coppers requiring more freq replacement but better spark and cheaper price. Cheap price really isn't that great b/c iridiums last 4x as long as copper and price of $2 vs $7 would put iridiums would actually make iridiums cheaper per mile. I just put in coppers because I wanted to see what difference it made - maybe the car feels like it coasts better? This might just be placebo effect though.

I agree with your search....if you like to change your plugs often and feel better doing so...go with the coppers....if you don't want/like to change your plugs go with iridium or platinium. I like the cost/mile calc . I like driving my max as inexpensive as possible....I went with iridiums too.

I'll have to say that the Ird. feel alot smoother than i had expected. The car runs like a champ now. I believe the guy i bought it from may have only changed the front bank plugs. I noticed when i was replacing the rear banks they were almost welding in , lol. Also, not to mention they looked 3 times worst than the ones i took out of the front. But not bad for a car i picked up for 1800, lol. I think i got a pretty good deal . It has black ext. Black int. Bose , sunroof , leather, 5 -spd etc. Now the struts are bad but im planning on lowering the car so i would be replacing those things anyway even if they were good !
