Black (Tint) / Red 95-96 Tails! Look Inside!

Okay firstly let me say I really like the clear/red tails but there are a few reasons I didn't get them.
1. $$$
2. Originality
3. Not made anymore.

So I vouched for something cheaper - I tinted my tails. Only instead of tinting the whole thing I only tinted the top half. They're pretty dark but I think they look slick. Tell me what you think (remember I can always take the tint off). By the way it costed me $10.
Thanks,
Cyrus

The product I used is called...

"Nite Shades". Its made by VHT so its not that hard to come by. I picked it up at my local store for $10. One good thing about it is that its PLENTIFUL - as it you could do 3 pairs of taillights with that one can so if you mess up you can take it off with paint thinner and do it over in a second.

I like it.

Good job on the tail tint, but do you think it is legal? I dont really know the law on taillights, I just heard that all clear were illegal. Anyone ever gotten pulled over for having tinted or black tail covers? Thanks.

Cyrus,

That looks really cool, but you are gonna get railed by the cops in a heartbeat.

I had a 95 max with the same color and I did that same thing except I used this stuff from Japan made by DIA-WYTE LTD. I shaved the rear at the same time I tinted the tails, and it made a huge improvement on the rear of the car. I got a black 97 now so I am trying to decide weather or not to clear the blinker or tint it to look like the 98 Jetta GT. Those tails look dope on all black with super dark tint.
Anyways, I think it looks good Vyrus. Keep the mods coming.

BTW, Cyrus

Your Max looks good. VERY nice looking engine bay. I have some suggestions on mods in the future that will make your Max look AWESOME and sound sweet too:

1)DIAMOND-Cut Clear corners
2)Tinted windows
3)Body color door handles
4)OEM Spoiler
5)Red/clear tails (There MIGHT be a spot left of the 4. Contact PocketRocket!!!! (If not, those black-outs look nice too)
6)Cold Air Intake
7)FSTB, RSTB
8)Stillen Body kit

If you got all those things, I would keel jOO and steal your Max

Did you ever get pulled over? I don't think I will because I still have the brake lights the normal color, and I think that is what they are really after. I know some old Caddys and Chevys had the rear turns tinted so I don't think its illegal. But they again there's only one way to find out...

I have no experience with tail ligts, since I ordered my Red/Clear tails for DavidL/Pockets last group deal. Anyways, I was wondering if you painted the inside or outside of the tail. Also, where did you find the VHT paint? Thanks!

The cops never messed with me for that. But like you said, you are not doind anything to the brake lights. The only time its hard to see blinkersis in direct sunlight. At night you can see the blinkers fine. Everything should be good with the 5-0.

I painted the outside. If you painted the inside it would not be a tint and the reflector portion would not work so it would not be a great idea. I got the VHT paint from my local store, Millenium Autosports. I'm sure you can get it online, and if you can't check Nopi I'm sure they have an alternative.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad that it shouldn't be a problem with the 5-0. I'm oning to order the paint as soon as I can find it onine, and when my tails come (hopefully before Xmas) Im gonna try painting them. Hope you don't mind me using your idea. Thanks again.

I like it Vyrus, I really do - and I'm a hard man to please, lol. There's just one thing, I too strongly feel that combo belongs on a black car. If I had your color, I'd consider all red! Have you thought of that? It might even be safer/"more legal" since you'd be braking and blinking red (just don't ever reverse if a cop is around!). Good job on the original idea, I like it. Maybe some one with a black car will try and post pics.

P.s. No offense to you at all but please, I beg you please, take off the fake GTR emblym.

if you didnt like the amber(?), i would have just painted the the amber red. Its glass paint, have them in red/blue/orange/green. I think it would have look nicer if you did that. There is nothing to compliment the black so it looks a little odd. Nice quality work none the less.

No . Thanks for all the compliments I'd be happy to see you use it RPMaxima (even though you are using clear/red and I am using stock tails...). I noticed a little flaw on the right outer tail earlier so I redid it. Like I said there's so much paint you don't know what to do with it (except maybe repaint flaws ). And by the way it comes off easily and nicely with Acetone, which doesn't even harm the plastic.
Thanks again,
Cyrus

Hey, how hard is it to do the red/clear tail mod yourself? I heard somewhere that you can remove the orange with a heat gun and some foil or something. Not really sure, but i would much rather do this than spend money i dont have to get soemthing that they dont even make anymore. Anyone know how to do this? Just curious...

You must have a 1997-1999 Maxima to do this mod. Go to www.MaximaDriver.com and the How2 section to find instructions.

Thats the only problem - you can't get a nice gloss unless you want to black out your tail completely - meaning no light will come through . It sucks but the more you put on the more gloss you get, and the more you put on the less light you get.

You should've used...

VHT also sell a much better looking tinting spray...
I think it was something like VHT smoke windowtint spray.
I had it done on my altezza with inner lights shaved, and the silvery, cheap gloss is gone. personally, nightshade is for domestic cars... like one of them pontiacs...

Do you have pics of this. I'd like the altezzas if they weren't so ugly. I always thought someone should paint inside body color or something like that. No offense to those who like the altezzas tho. I'm not trying to start up that whole big scene again. Later.

You can do red/clears on 95-95, that's what pocketrocket was talking about. There are about 20 or so us who are going to be getting them around Christmas. It's very possible, if you have the knowledge and the patience.

The only thing I can tell you is try the search function. I know you heat them up, and take out a piece, but how you get them back together is way over my head. I bought mine from DavidL, they're supposed to be the best, but other people have done them themselves. Goodluck.

I dun have a digital camera, so if I convince one of my friend in photography major with a camera and a scanner, I will post the pic as soon as possible.
