Do you have a pic of your completely tinted rear lights? I think many of us here would love to get a look at that.

My '95 SE is "Neptune Blue" (deep dark blue), so I think it might look good w/ a completely tinted rear.

Thanks!

Re: Re: Hope I don't jinx myself....

You can't do it on the '95-'96 because there is nothing to remove when you open the lense up. On the '95-'96 the orange is part of the lens cover. On the '97-'99, the orange piece is an extra lens.

From what I know you can't do this Mod on a 95-96 because the Tail is all one piece(red, amber & clear). What Pocketrocket is having DaveL do is, take a totally clear rear(not stock) tail light and painting the bottom half red, thus the red and clear tail light.

Honestly its almost as bright as it was before. Maybe a LITTLE TINY factino of light I am losing, but I'm willing to sacrafice that. I'm going to take more pics today and post them and if I get more negative feedback I'll just wipe it of (acetone)!

I actually think it looks a little better on your car now that you have pics taken outside. I'm still gonna try it on my black 96 SE
And thanks for the idea...never would have thought of that.

Correct me if I'm wrong (cuz it's def. not the first time, and won't be the last), but couldn't you go to walmart and get some of the cheap limo tint and place it on the tails? Just a suggestion.

Sure you could...but it would peel off (ot people would peel it off), and it would not be CLOSE to as black as mine are...but why don't you try it and tell us. There's a first for everything.

I don't think that look would look right on my white max, besides I'll be getting my red/clears from DavidL pretty soon. That's all I need.

i think i like the way mine are now. its shinier. and it would be hard to match the tint up to the superblack max.

What about white?

I've got an idea...What if you did the top amber and clear sections of 95-6 tails in white instead of black? hmmm...maybe I try.

That would probably only be worth a try on a "white" car. I can't see it looking good w/ any other color paint. There's also the problem of finding a white "paint" that would have enough opacity to let the lamp-light out from behind it.

The smoke tinting spray is different in this respect, because it is designed to let some amount of light pass through it, whereas a white "paint" is not.

I thought about the same thing...White would be good to try on...And I'd like to see some pics on a black 97-99 max. I had this idea for a long time now...

Take a look at the tails on a 98 Jetta GT. Those come with a lense that is smoked out, but it is not painted on, it is the plastic that is smoked. In my opinion those look the best.

im not sure about you guys, but ive talked to the cops about the taillight situation...and they said that your taillights can be green, blue, etc. as long as they light the proper color...well, and are bright enough to be clearly seen at a distance...which is where they get most people.

this may not be true of everywhere, but at least in indiana, that is the case.
