Cefiro Vs Cefiro

Well I was out doing the boy racer thing last night and I spot this Cefiro. So I wheel round and check it out. Nice 17, but apart from that its stock. I do the drive by and he speeds up to me. The guy in the back is like" Hey, have you got a minute?". He wants a race but that was his way of asking. We go to a big stretch of open road out of town and park up and talk for a while. Basically his is exactly identical to mine except for the 17's (I have stock 15's). Both JDM speck with VQ25DE and both auto. So we lose the weight of the passengers and line up. We did about 8 runs. I killed him all the time. By about 70km/hr I had 1.5 car lenghts and at speed limit, I had 4 car lenghts. I did 7 runs with just flooring it on go, and 1 loading the trans. He did Neutral drops (I cringed every time he did it) and got some wheel spin, ut not much since he had nice tires.
The only thing that I can see that was slowing him was the rims, but I didn't think it would be that much. I recommended that he reset his computer since his car has only been here in New Zealand for a month, and most of the time sitting on the car yard. I recommended this site but hes like yeah we have the net, but I cant use it. He thinks he will best me next week but we will see about that.

Apart from that, he was a good guy. Did not get ****ty about being killed.

Give the guy a week to drive around after resetting the ECU for his car to remap fuel/air ratio & stuff. Also, I suggest one of you guys buy a G-Tech pro and do a few horsepower runs to find out if your car actually has more power.

This would be a great way to finally understand the difference big rims make versus stock rims, since your cars are otherwise identical.

Wheel weight can really slow a car down. I think that's part of the reason why our 95-96 maxima's (15") are just a tad quicker then the 97-99's (16"). If you hit the miata board (www.miataforum.com) you'll see they are very finicky about their wheels. They have alot less power then us so anything that slows them down is very bad.

When you say they are nice wheels, I'd imagine that they look fancy. More times then not those are the ones that weight the most.

Good kill.

We both raced again today. This time I reset his computer and I reset mine as well. Basically the same results as the first time, 4 car lengths at speed limit. Speed limit in the cefiro is about 190 - 200km/hr. He had less fuel than me, but he was heavier. We weighed them. Mine was 1370kg, his was 1360kg but he is a big boy so it worked out that both cars were 1450kg with the drivers. I suggested that we swap 2 tyres, ie I put 2 of his mags on the front of mine, and he put 2 of my stock 15's on the back of his. It was going to be too much work. We are going to leave that for another time. My car has 70000km and his has 88000km

So if anyone ever needs proof that mag wheels slow you down, point them here.

Does he have OBD1 like you? If his Cefiro is 95+ and has OBD2 it may be ristricting his car a bit, thus giving you a advantage. Just a idea .
