I'm not in CA, but are these going to be equal length? I'm not familiar with the "legendary" cattman y-pipes

They're legendary because Cattman Performance produced the first Maxima y-pipe in 1997 and, like all of our exhaust parts, our US-made y-pipes - in terms of performance, fitment and durability - offer unequalled quality and performance.

The y-pipes I'm referring to in this thread are designed to be used by themselves (with stock manifolds) and are not equal length because that would make the part more expensive without increasing performance.

We make equal length-style y-pipes to go with the headers we make for 95-08 Maximas because in that situation the feature does add a little power and makes the headers sound a LOT better.

Just curious how much it will be for equal length that works with stock manifolds.

Yeah, I was just considering a custom shop to have an equal length y built as I don't want headers right now but would like the equal length tone.

If you can build them I would assume you'd have some sales.

I'd definitely think about it, if it were reasonable of course.

FWIW, we experimented with equal length y-pipes during the late '90's when we were originally developing our design. No performance benefit, and we didn't feel there was a significant difference in sound. Once the exhaust pulses have been scrambled through the very assymetric-length stock manifold runners, its too late for an equal length y-pipe design to have an effect. The y-pipe that Stillen came out with after ours debuted was sort of equal length, and they claimed it was superior because of that. Testing showed that it didn't make more power (less) and there was no discussion that I can recall of any difference in sound. After a couple of years, they dropped that feature since it significantly increases the production cost and didn't improve the part.

Funny thing is, its just the opposite with equal-length headers. Experimenting with an assymetric-length y-pipe and near-equal length header primaries made the ugliest sound I've ever heard come from a Maxima, or maybe any car.
