2 CEL codes fast question !!!
2 CEL codes fast question !!!
i have a P1400-EGRC solenoid valve
and P0440- small EVAP leak
everytime i clear them they keep coming back, anywho what's the best way to get them fixed.
Btw, my gas tank lid doesnt close on the hinge perfectly if that makes a difference with EVAP? like i have to push it in when im closing it and i have to pull it out with like a coin or key to open it and fill gas for example...
Oh and my gas mileage is like 9-10 MPG on premium =/
all suggestions would be great ! thanks

you need to change the EGRC solenoid valve. Its next to the engine on the side the airbox is on. There is a brown connector and a black connector and a green connector. One of them is it, but I cant remember which is it.

ok i see, thanks i just found it online for like 25$ no problem ill be changing this then. but hmm, what does it actually affect?
what about the evap problem, i think that i have to change a fuel filter, but im not sure =/
what do u think

The P0440 is for a small Evap leak. Your fuel filter is not part of the evaporative emissions. My first check would most definately be a gas cap. Check to see if its tight. If it is tight, and the light stays on, you have a faulty gas cap.
The leak is likely a bad hose. Check the vacuum hoses in the evap system. motor, valve, tank, and charcoal canister. I'm at wotk now or I would post a diagram for you. If the cap is tight and has a good looking oring/gasket it likey NOT the cap.
ok i see
i changed the cap anyways but still the same problem, and yes i just bought an egr solenoid valve online, and hopefully this will solve that problem
now the leak, i did check vacuum hoses but i dont see anything near evap system or motor or charcoal canister so idk =/ what else could be at fault?

Take it to a shop for a smoke test, locate the leak, take home and fix it your self. If they dont have the equipment take it somewhere else. Without smoke, a shop cold mess around all day and not find it.
just swapped out my egrc valve solenoid, did a ecu reset with a scanner and no more cel light.
i was able to get to the 10mm nut out with a stubby ratchet type wrench (no flex)
getting the hoses out was a little harder. i used a door remover tool to get the hoses loose and slowly twisted as i pulled. (btw, this tool works wonders when changing the fuel filter)
when it was time to get the nut back on, i used some tape to temporarily attach the nut to my middle finger to get it positioned right.
very quick fix. i have no more cel. and immediately noticed more power and smoother shifts.
i've been getting 230-250miles a tank (usually fill 14-15 gallons) of sunoco 93 octane. i'll update my mpg after a couple of tanks.

Just a couple points on your mileage, which no-one addressed. If you live in NYC and do a lot of city stop and go, you'll get poor mileage. Still shouldn't be that bad. If your tires are under inflated you'll lose 1-2 mpg, s/b 31 psi or so. Quick take-off and holding gas on too long also loses 1-2 mpg. you can let off about a block early and still not go too slow. I drive mostly inside Halifax, and rarely get over 35 mph, and and rarely more than 2-3 blocks at a time - I get about 17-20mpg. Highway I get about 25mpg. of course, out here in Nova Scotia they don't sell over 91 octane ( if you can believe the dealers) - I usually toss in a can of octane booster. Also make sure you change your air filter in spring and fall - 6 months of pollution can block a lot of airflow.
