Problems with my ALT Belt. Squeaking.

I got a 95 Maxima and I've had it for 5 months now and haven't really driven it in rainy weather, But i noticed if i hit a puddle of water in the street my belt will squeak really loud for a few seconds and go away.

Well today is verry bad weather and was lots of water i got 2 blocks away from home and realized the dam reliable *** Max Wasn't gonna get me to where i needed to go. The belt squeaked really loud as soon as i left my house and then didn't make any more noise but all my lights got super dark and never came back up. i let it idle in dry spot for 2 minutes and finnaly the lights got bright again, as soon as i got back on the street they went dark again so i just took the Max Home and parked it.

I checked the belts the other day and they look all new and are good and tite, the power steering works good but the alternator is whats not getting spun in rainy weather.

What could be wrong? Thanks guy's!

Or do a search, there is probably 50 threads about it...
Sounds like it needs tightened if it is squealing.

If you get brake light + battery light, you need a new alternator.

Belts glazed?
You sure they're tight?
Alty. pully glazed up?
Alty. spinning freely, bearings ok?
Missing splash shield causing the water to get all over the belts?

It's not rocket science, the belts have to be in good shape, tight, dry and the componets they're connected to must be in good working order as well.

Keep in mind that the splash shield doesn't really cover the belt completely. If you have no splash guards at all then yeah, get some. You should really try tightening the belts. Maybe loosen then up a bit first so you can check if they're cracked, etc. It might be a good idea to replace them. There's a diagram in the fsm that'll show you what to do (basically), but you can also search. pmohr has a video of changing the belts on youtube. check it out.
