TCS/Slip on -> Engine stumble

'99 Max. Background- This car has an on again off again miss, which I think is a bad intermitent coil, but I've been unable to pin it down in the driveway (yet).

Meanwhile, today the TCS/Slip light flashed on today, and the car started running very rough at the same time. Conditions are dry roads, so the TCS is likely unwarranted. Unfortunately I can't get it into the driveway for testing today while it's barfing.

Any thoughts on a relationship between the two that might be something other than a coil? Or perhaps some thoughts of why a coil issue would cause this?

Thanks,

This issue is similar to what mine has been doing recently. The SES (service engine soon) light came on then the slip/TCS off lights came on, right after I sensed a miss when accelerating. The SES light has stayed on but the slip/TCS off light only comes on every now and then, once they come on they do not go off until you stop the car and restart it. Only sometimes does it run rough, typically at a stoplight, i just put it in neutral and rev the engine a bit. This all started after I filled up an empty tank with gas, am wondering if I got some bad gas?

Based on what I see on the posts and other places on the net this is a typical issue, I have seen different approaches to address it - replace all the ignition coils, O2 sensor, MAF sensor, I am not really sure where to start.

Am planning on taking it to auto zone to get them to read the codes, and will go to the library to check out the chiltons manual.

Anybody who has been down this path before, if you could provide some feedback that would be great!!!

TCS/Slip will light up with a severe misfire. I believe the system is automatically disabled under certain conditions. Fix the misfire and the Traction Control will work correctly.

SES/TCS/SLIP lights all on !!!

I have a 2000 Maxiima GLE... Here is my issue(s) Had a stumble/misfire a few years ago... went away.. suspected coils.. moved out to N.H. from San Diego.. Misfire came back, ses light on. Bought (6) new coils off E-Bay and when I got them home I did a Ohm measurement and the New ones were COMPLETLY different from the 6 new ones. Put the 6 new ones in and SES/TCS/Slip light came on and stayed on but the car ran well. Sent them back... Then had the misfire come back.. BAD and was able to push on one of the coils while it was running and get it to stop for awhile. Checked the wire harness/took apart the coil cleaned stretched spring/cleaned contacts stc... still misses.
Ok now this is really starting to **** me off. Bought one NEW coil off e-bay from a different vendor got it home and again checked ohms.. different again. Installed it and now again all three lights are on SES/SLIP/TCS are on and it's winter with no TCS... The weird this is the car is running great, No miss.. and yes all three O2 sensors have been replace recently within the last year or so.. I reall do like this car but My wife and myself are getting extremly sick of this... Oh yeah did I mention the dealer even said they can't find anythig !!! PLEASE help !!!!

jeez; crazy noobs are bumpin like crazy tonight...

Rkt-Rch- Ebay coils are CRAP. Period; end of discussion.. Buy a good set from a reputable member on here and you might have your problem resolved otherwise im going to say its either a Nasty plug which im sure you've checked so thats irrelevant wiring or a ECU....

Do this, try to pin down which Coil it is by taking the coils off the plugs one by one and if the idle Does Not roughen its That coil.. In which case, try replaceing that coil with a diffrent another oneof your 6 coils and see if the misfire moves.

Hunterccxz it probably wont illuminate a code, Misfire codes are Very spotty.. Try Cleaning the Big 4 if you havent; MAF, TB, IACV, EGR. than report back; if you need instructions search.
