Need Help!

Ok so I had some problems with my 95 max about a month ago and has been in the shop ever since. To save some reading and some time I wont get into that.

But they have figured out I need a new computer or "ECU".

So my question is, do I need to get a used one off the org? Or is there a better upgraded version I could get?

Get back to me as soon as possible, Im new to this and dont have much knowlage on the subject.

Thanks,

You can get a used one on the org in the classifieds section, of you can buy an upgraded one from jwt. A used one will range from $80-$100 usually, and the jwt ecu is like $595, but its an upgrade.

if you have 5 speed u need to get a 5 speed ecu because if u get auto you will have a bunch on codes , I say get a used one for $50-$100, save your self some money, Btw how does the shop know its the ecu and not something else. I may not been following this but what happened to your car?

I had a water issue where some got into my intake, first I replaced the plugs changed the oil. It wouldnt rev over 2500. A new MAF made no diffrence. Then, I took the exaust off and I found out that the cat was stopped up, so I took that out. It made it a little better. It would rev higher but still had major problems. Then I took it to my dads friends shop, they did a scan on it and told me that the computer is bad.

I've always been curious about how to diagnose a failing ECU. Don't you need the "consult" equipment to really know?

Sometimes I think my ECU is going bad but I really have no way to know...

you probably would need a consult but the problem is that most shops dont have it that why im interested of how they found out that its bad, the best method stick another ecu and see if it works, if it does then you know the problem.

you will have to buy 1, or get someone you know with a compatible ecu and use theirs.
