Bye Bye 3.0

Ok so I had some water go into my intake about a month ago. 95 SE 5spd w/ tein s tech, new ecu, full exhaust and new sound system.

I had to get a new ECU just so it could be scanned.

Outcome: Bent valves.

I was thinking a 3.5 swap. how much $ ??

Whats the best way to get my car back on the road?

Thanks

i wonder if you can swap in a 350z or G35 high rev in a 4th gen?

sorry, didnt mean to jack thread you thread. it depends on how much you can get a 3.5 motor for. i'm assuming it'll cost around 3K for a 3.5 swap.
as for a simple way to get your car on the road, i'd say another 3.0 replacement...

G35s ad 350z are not FWD.

If you can do the swap yourself, then it shouldn't cost more than $1200. Go to car-part.com and find an engine from a 2002+ Maxima or Altima.

I believe you will have to use your timing equipment unless you do a full ECU swap.

you can also do a gallo 12 or for some serious power a gallo 24 (lol 2f2f reference lol) 3.5 FWD if you have the time and money and patience if not a de-k.

hope i catch you in time:

http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...dek-100-a.html

grab a buddy and head over to Illinois. ****** your cam sprocket out of your current motor, throw it in the de-k, problem solved. actually, problem improved.

3.5 swaps (IMHO) are too much headache. kiss your emissions testing goodbye. your current engine harness should match up with the de-k, but do some reading first. i'm not well versed on the subject, but i would personally recommend that route.

if you're really looking for an upgrade, throw some 3.5 cams (and etc.) into the de-k and you'll be smoking some of the 3.5 guys.

edit: is it not possible to throw a FWD 3.5 intake manifold onto the Z/G 3.5, modify the tranny (etc), and have everything working correctly?

First my .02. Why not just fix the problem? The worst that you could need is a new head right? (I come from working on 80s ZX's, so don't sue me) Wouldn't that be the easiest and most cost effective way to put your car back on the road?

And something I have to search for but I'll bring up:
What are all the swaps you guys talk about? I have never heard of a partial swap before. The 3.5 seems straight forward, but that's all I understand.

I found a guy who has a junkyard with 2 maximas there. Any tips for buying an engine from a junkyard?

i wouldn't recommend it, cause you never know what you're gonna get. which is okay, if we're talking about cd players, cigarette lighters, etc. engines are highly expensive, and highly mistreated by most people.

if you HAVE to get one from a junkyard, i would look at a few things. first of all, the mileage on the odometer. sure, you can't always go by that, since odometers go out, and people could have swapped the motor. which brings me to... second, look to see if the vin # matches the dash. if not, well...you know where i'm going. third, look for leaks. intake manifold, oil pan (if you can get to it), around the oil filter, etc. anywhere something connects, look for a leak. it's possible that engine failure is the reason the car is there in the first place.

just make an informed decision. don't throw $500+ at something you don't know is in good shape. take a mechanic-friend if you're not well versed under the hood.
