Tach Error?

I ran into an unusual problem during a recent road trip. I was running smooth on cruise control at around 75 mph when i looked at my RPM gauge. The needle was fluttering and jumping all the way into the redline. There was no indication from the butt dyno that the engine was actually misfiring or anything. It would bounce back to normal for a while and do it all over again. I noticed if I applied the gas the RPM gauge would read normal. Is there a RPM sensor going bad on my max?

Thanks and be safe, Mark V.

It's possible your tach is going bad. You can take the cluster out and make sure all connections are clean.

common sense goes a long way, did the engine sound like it was revved way the hell up? than it must be your cluster bud

check the classifieds! some good deals.. just remember its illegal to have a cluster with LESS mileage on it than the vehicle really does.

it's only illegal to fail to disclose a mileage discrepancy.
