Auto shift points '97

I've searched but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. Is there any place or mod to get the auto tranny reprogrammed to downshift sooner? I'd like it to kick down from 3rd to 2nd with less throttle application. I feel like it I have to give it too much gas and when it does finally kick down, it's more than I need. From what I have read, seems like were just stuck with it the way it is. I'm not looking to race or anything, but it would make the car better to drive.

Maybe altering the throttle position sensor to trick it?

The suprastick is what your looking for. Search in the all motor section for more info.

^^Thanks for pointing me towards that. Looks like it's going to be too complex for me to figure out. It's the wifey's car and I just figured if there's something that could plug and play or be a simple tweak I'd bang it out. But this thing looks like it will take a lot time between programming and wiring...very cool though. If it were my car I'd definitely be ordering one right now.

How slack is your accelerator cable??

I had that problem you have to push further down on the gas for the kickdown - tighten it up but not super tight see how that goes

^^yea, i tightened my throttle cable because it was a little loose and my acceleration improved. but instead of idling around 600/800 rpms it would idle at 1000/1200 rpms. then sometimes it'll idle normally, but throttle response was a lot better than it was before it tighten the cable...

So now you should adjust your idle but more likely you over tighten it and its keep the throttle open a bit

+1, tightening the idle screw is a last resort.

Thanks for the tip about tightening the the cable. Didn't even occur to me. There was 3/4-1" of slack in it! Car definitely runs better now. No idle issue. Like they all said, if you're idling to high, loosen the cable back up. The throttle plate should be able to make contact with the stop when throttle is released.
