Sanding Fluted Lenses

Has anyone successfully sanded off the horizontal lines from the inside of OEM 97-99 headlight lenses?

Is this predetermined to fail? Are the fluted lines too deep into the lense to remove them? Anyone try it?

I dig OEM lamps, except for the lines, and I'm sure lots of blacked-out-housing retro folk would agree. I got the idea from this: http://www.mx6.com/forums/2g-faq-app...headlight.html (He sands down the completely fluted lense, only to give up and make clear lenses by cutting them out and epoxying a plexiglass sheet over it, which makes this idea seem like cake in comparison)

Do you have pics? Can you still see where the nipple was, or is it totally undetectable?
