Mass Air Question

As you may (or may not) know ive had some issues lately with my car that ive finally gotten figured out but during the process I had the intake snorkel assembly off my car. when I put it back on stupid me forgot to plug up the mass air sensor and the IAT (i think thats right) sensors back up. It started up fine but was making a very weird whining type noise while at idle. After a few min. I realized the sensors were unpluged. when i plugged the mass air sensor up the car instantly died. It fired back up and the noise was gone completly.

I just hope nothing is screwed up by me doing this. Any thoughts on what that weird noise was? I never got to drive it due to my ongoing issues. I'm waiting on a used starter from a org. member at the moment, so it's still temp. down.

whine type of sound? i really cant say? when the MAf and IATS was unplugged the car had no idea how much air was comin in. But some air was still goin thru hence the car still running in idle. I think the MAFs true purpose is to jus monitor air flow for ECU adjusting firing rates. More of an mainetance thing than instantaneous. Plug it back in and the car shd be fine.
