I am in the middle of a motor swap and ran into an issue with the motor lining up to the Trans. The problem is that there is a guide pin on the replacement motor and where the guide pin should line up with the trans there is another guide pin already in the trans.
This is my first motor swap on on a FWD so please dont bash me too hard if its is something simple or stupid!!LOL
This motor came out of an automatic and of course my vehicle is a 5 spd.
Not sure if that will be the issue or not..

Which one? The one on the motor or on the trans? I did try both of them but didnt want to damage it up too bad before I had some advice on what to do!
And they neither one wanted to budge!

either one. one has to go lol do u have a pin on the other side of the tranny ? mine had 2 pins one was on the tranny on one side and the other was on the engine on the other side

That's interesting. Perhaps it came out of the previous engine and got stuck in the transmission. See if you can get it to wiggle out (having dry ice would be ideal, since you need to shrink it). If not, just get a cutting wheel and a dremel and grind it off on both sides or drill through one of them. I know that my new motor (3.5) had a pin in the same spot, too. I think it's supposed to be there.

these are just guide dowels pressed in to the case/engine block. they can be removed easily enough. heat the aluminum around whichever dowel you choose to remove (doesn't matter which, but one has to go) and then pull it out with vice grips. less than a 2 minute operation. no need for dry ice or grinding.

Thanks you guys, I figured it was something easy, just wasnt sure how these dowels were attached, I will heat the one up on the motor and pull it out! Thanks alot, will keep you guys posted!!!!

there should be a dowel on the front part too, located about 180 degrees from where that one on the back side of the engine is. if your trans doesn't have a dowel pin in it on the front side of the engine (towards the front of the car) then put the dowel you extract from the back side into the hole on the front. just use little taps with a hammer and it will go in easily enough. i can see that the engine doesn't have one installed in the front side dowel hole in your pics, but I don't know if your trans case has one installed in it on the front side dowel hole.

there is one in the trans towards the front of the motor, thats kind of where I was getting the confusion from, as the housing on the old motor was different from the new one as far as the dowels are concerned. Im guessing when the new motor got pulled that it just took that dowel with it. Well at least thats what I was hoping!! Should be all good though, can hopefully get in the garage tomorrow heat it up and pull it out.

Everything went well, got everything together and now lining up the motor mounts and then getting ready to start hooking everything up and hopefully firing it up this weekend!

Kind of feel like a dumbass....as to how easy the dowels came out and everything lined up perfectly! Oh well...didnt know!!!
