speedometer is going wild?

speedometer is going wild?
My 98 Nissan Maxima speedometer changes every so often from 300,000 to 249000 to 36000 and when this happens all my gauges stop working. What could cause this problem?

ur gauge cluster is going south.....wait til it dies completely then look for one from a junkyard..oh and it should be 98 or 99 (digital)
