overheating question?

overheating question?

I was driving home and my temp started going up it only went up 3quaters of the way and then it went down and stayed liked that the rest of the way home i even turned the ac on and it didn't go up and i heard the fans kick on so that's good. any suggestions on what it could be?

Hi - First thought would be air in coolant system. If you take off rad cap when cool, then start up and run 10-15 minutes, that should clear it up. If you watch the rad opening, you may see lots of bubbles go past when the coolant is running by. If you don't see coolant running by, that could mean Second possibility -- Failing water pump or sticking thermostat. If you've never changed t-stat, that's a cheap fix and cheap insurance even if it's not the trouble - like $5 or so. Beyond these, we'd need more info to 'guess' further.
I'm really guessing here cause we never get your temps out here in Nova Scotia.

Check how much coolant is in your reservoir. I remember topping that off every week. Then finally I got a CEL or my Tstat. If that is low, most likely your Tstat is stuck open. Does your car warm up quickly on cold days?

yea it does warm up fast on cold days thanks for the help am gonna check more into it
