I corrected that problem already, read above. You have to have battery power to wire 64 and 62. That is if you are using the 2001 AE cluster.

which wire exactly are you guys grounding for the VSS to get the speedometer to work. I did this swap yesterday in my 96 and the only thing i can't get to work is the speedometer. i tried grounding pins 14 and 11 but that didn't work. anyone know for sure which one it is?

I believe the wiring diagrams are different for the 96 and 97 maxima. Check out Modernas "how to" here in this thread. The correct wiring should be there. Also double check the FSM for the 96 Maxima I think its different.

FYI, are you using a navigation system with this swap? Do to the delay of the speedometer (odometer doesn't register speed until you are doing at least 20mph with this cluster swap) it throws my navigation off, the navi doesn't think Im moving until I reach 20 to 25 mph. This is so annoying when Im navigating around city speed limit of 25 mph or if Im in traffic... The navi pointer will not move until Im doing at least 20 mph. Im might swap to the 98 cluster, this might fix the speed delay issue.

I read the write up but he doesn't say which wire he used as ground for the VSS. There is a little difference but most of it is the same. I'll post it when I get home later. Also I am not using a navi with this swap. Anyone else remembers which wire they used as ground for the VSS, even if it's not for a 96?

On the VSS you ground wire 11 on the 4th gen harness to wire 38 or 10 on M84 or M82. Wire 15 5thgen M33 goes to 28 4th gen M83. Bring wire 32 on 5thgen M32 to wire 14 4th gen M82. This should get your speedometer working properly. Lucky for you, I had to figure all this out on my own. The person that did this first was from NYC maximas and was not helpful at all. He had a different year Max than I. So like I was saying the diagrams are different between a 96,97 and 98-99.
