Exhaust options
My y-pipe split in two. I bought a WSP Y-pipe. I drove my car to the exhaust shop about 2-3 miles away. When I got there and they said my whole exhaust was pretty much shot except the cat and the portion of my y-pipe still attached to my car. I showed them the WSP Y-pipe and they said my y-pipe was still good, and that they could weld in a new pipe and flex section, and make a whole new exhaust system. They also said the y-pipe currently on my car is better than the WSP I brought to them b/c it is stainless steel and the WSP is aluminized steel. Now I cant tell whether or not it is stainless or not, but the previous owner did say the car had a WSP y-pipe already, I just have no way of verifying it. They said the cost to make a new exhaust system would be $375. My question is should I let them make a whole new system w/o the WSP I just bought, or have them use the WSP? What size should I go with? Is 2.5 ok for the whole exhaust system or should I go with 2.25?
Ok, if theres to bulges in the y pipe you have on, then its stock/OEM. If its not there (or espessially if they are) id just put that new one on (unless you have harsh winters). I got my whole exhaust from the cat back in 2.5 with a magnaflow muffler and 4in tip for about $350 bc I had a discount, so thats a resonalble price, and go with the 2.5, it fits, it looks good, and mine is SS, so see if yours would be to, but, all in all, its ur call.

Yea, but are the gains the same if I went with, say a Cattman midpipe instead of a custom made one? Or are all of the gains b/c of the y-pipe itself? And Im in Atlanta for now so now harsh winters, but the car came from Mass. And where on the y-pipe are these bulges?
as the two come off the to manifolds, where they just bind together, there should be bulges, almost the size of the main cat, these are the pre-cats, and if you look at the WSP one, it is just one piece of aluminumized steel. The main power comes from the Y pipe, for the most part the rest of it exhaust gives little power upgrades, and mostly gives sound. But the B pipe and Cat together some will argue ~1-2 HP increase.
