Difference between 95-97 and 98+ park brake cables?

So I have a MY1997 Maxima that needs new park brake cables.

Nissan offers two different types, one for 95-97, and another type for Maximas built 11/1997 and later. The difference seems to be only the price, I cross checked the mating parts to the left and right brake cables, the P/N's appear to be the same for all years (rear calipers and front park brake cable assy) so it seems like the cables should interchange?

Does anyone know what, if any differences there are/is?

For me, the ones listed for my year of Maxima cost $74 more a pair than the >11/1997 cables, which is a big deal to me.

I hope someone knows the answer. I am guessing a manufacturer change due to corrosion issues??

They're all the same. I've put one from a 99 onto a 95 with no issues.

Thanks guys for all of the info.
I installed the 98+ cables without any issues.

One question, how strong are the parking brakes on these cars? Even with the parking brake cable well adjusted, I can't get the rear wheels to lock up. The parking brake is definitely strong enough to do the job, but not as strong as in other cars.

I just installed 2000 ebrake cables, identical to stock and fittment was exact. Looks like 95-03 are all the same.

Im sure you have fixxed them by now but you need new calipers. The rear calipers get water in behind the piston seal and rust the piston. It wont move and its frozen in place. Its very common on these cars so youll need to replace your calipers. You could rebuild them but it is not worth it. I replaced mine back in late 04 with lifetime rebuilt ones from Autozone. I just replaced them again last week. Same frozen issue. 98-04 and 04-10, looks like they last 6 years. Thankfully I didnt have to pay a dime, save for fluid and a bleeder kit. Advance Auto has rear calipers for a stupid cheap price. I would assume they are lifetime warranty.

When I was purchasing these, I was informed the only difference is the actual date the cables themselves were manufactured. All the cables should fit.

Yeah prob is that the calipers ARE (were) new...well, aftermarket anyway. But, I wouldn't be surprised if the calipers I bought aren't good enough.
It holds the car on a hill, but I can't lock up the rear wheels with my e-brake. Don't care enough anymore to look into it further! good enough for now.

Don't know for sure but I read that the 95-97 ebrake cable would get pinched when the car was put on a lift and the 98-99 cable fixed that problem.I would think both might fit but have different tabs that put the cable in a different mounted location.Do your research and good luck.

E-brake cable getting pinched

I noticed that my 1996 Maxima cable was pinched and binding probably from being on a lift over the years as was mentioned so I checked my Dad's 1997 and he's cable was protected in that area of the car because it was in a metal raceway. So maybe there is some slight difference in the cable part numbers for that.

Here's a nice link to the TSL with a diagram:
