Idle jumps when going into gear.

Just did a motor swap, and now with the newer motor I have a real jumpy idle, the idle does jump up to 1500-1700 rpms when I go to put it into gear.
Vacuum leak? and I did recently clean out the IACV.

It also seems to have a hard time starting, most of the time I have to open up the throttle body for it to fire.
Was wondering if this is due to the cat being clogged up as it did have a blown head gasket on the previous motor and a good amount of coolant was blowing out the exhaust during the first run of the motor.

Is the computer trying to compensate for the possible limited flow of exhaust?

Thanks!
Mike

right around 750. The idle is pretty inconsistent.

Will try cleaning out the MAF, and see what that does. I may also go ahead and change out the ECTS as it may be contributing to the hard start.

Well I am still trying to diagnose the hard starting...as i see alot of people are. Its amazing how many different determining factors it could possibley be!!
Something that i found that was kind of weird was that, the first time i diagnosed the ground to the bell housing bolt next to the CKSFT pos sensor was that i used a set of jumper cables, clamped on to the bolt and clamped on to the negative post on battery, and fired right up! So...im thinking great, that was it. So I go out and purchase a new ground cable and run it from the neg. post to the bell housing..and what do you know same thing ..Hard starting!! So I cleaned every ground and hooked everything back up and even ran another ground to the big bolt on the starter and still the same problem!!! I just dont understand why the jumper cables worked and the actual ground wire didnt!! Will the CKSFT pos sensor just go or will it start to go out intermittently (basically will it have good days and bad days?) I did pull the code a P01335 which came up CKSFT POS sensor REF.

I hate to go out and buy this dam sensor and that not be the problem, especially after the fact that it starts right up with the dam jumper cable acting as a ground!
