Locking Differential?

I have a 97 SE Auto without ABS. In my search for a tranny I've come across a place that asked me if I have a Locking or Non-Locking Transmission. I honestly didn't know there was an option.
Does the ABS have the Locking or does that matter? Where would I look to see which one I might have? Thanks!

You have an open differential. You should state if you have ABS or not becuase the CVs are different. But it doesn't make a difference on 4-gen usa version trannys. Candadian 4-gens have LSD I hear though. USA I30s also.

I came across this too. What you are experiencing is people not knowing the correct terms for the limited slip vs open differential. Doesn't matter though, just say you have a normal open differential like 99% of all FWD cars and you will be ok. Limited slip diffs were only available in canada, not in the US.

So technically if I wanted to get the LSD, I would have to get the axles, and LSD Tranny? Or is there more to it than I'm thinking? Appreciate the help....

I have a LSD, and bought it in the US.

Contact Don in Texas. He upgraded his ~95/96 automatic Maxima a few years back to a canadian LSD-equipped tranny. I think he had to replace one driveaxle (driver's side) and maybe a wheel bearing, but I'm not 100% sure on the details.

I upgraded my 5speed to an LSD-equipped tranny, and didn't have to replace anything (driveaxles, etc). Direct drop-in, but that's only for 5speeds.
