Replacing windshield trim

I recently noticed that half of the upper trim on my windshield is just...gone. It looks like it was snapped off. The end is a little jagged, but it's sitting down nearly flush. I'd think someone tried to break in, but I've never heard of anyone taking out the windshield to do it...

How hard is that to replace? The FSM isn't terribly helpful. Is it delicate enough that I need to take it to someone who does this for a living?

Maybe I can help ! I work at a glass shop here in La and we come across this more often than you think. Usually we just use a universal molding to replace the oem one. Any shop around you area should be able to this with no problem. Just tell them you want to replace your old broken molding with some univeral "5" molding . They will know exactly what your talking about. Worst case scenario they may have to do a R&R on it , which means remove and replace .There will be a chance the glass could break during the R&R but if you go with a reputable shop they should be able to do this with no problem. Bigger glass shops do R&R's on a daily basis for body shops , dealerships , etc ! So needless to say it not rare to pull and replace a windshield without breaking it . I hope ive helped some. Oh and dont worry the universal molding will actually look better than the oem IMO !
