Weird Shift delay

Ok so first of all I have never seen or heard of this problem before on this site or Ever and I searched and couldn't find nothing so I am asking here.

My other Maxima (the black one) is shifting weird but the auto tranny shifts fine when driving.
Its when I put it into drive from park that this happens...Its just some kind of weird 3 second delay and its really getting annoying. It doesnt matter whether its warmed up or ice cold same thing all the time.

I shift from drive into park and its immediate but if I shift from Park into Drive
theres just a delay, what can I do to fix this little annoyance ??

Is there a sensor in the gearshifter that tells when to shift ?

Yeah there is. I forget what thread on here but i read that the shifter cable can get rusted at a bolt and make shifting out of gears a lil harder. Trace the line from the Shifter all the way back. there should be like a grounding bolt thats rusted out. That may be yur problem.

check your trans fluid i know some times if your fluid is under or even overfilled it could cause a delayed engadgment plus it always a good place to start

Is there a follow-up on this thread? I just bought another Max with this same 3 second delay going into D from P. Is there a pic of the bolt that you were referencing to cashoit or the thread? I tried searching...

I still have it. This one is for the moms which I am looking after before I give it to her...extensive neglect. I currently have the entire center dash out to replace the bulbs in the auto climate control and I am looking for the screw but can't find what you were referring to. Do I have to remove the shifter completely??

Seriously? Have you even tested your Dropping Resistor? Scenically located on the Drivers side front strut tower? Or How about your tranny fluid's condition? Shift Switch Inhibitor on the trans?

As always FSM in my sig.

FallenOne, you know I would at least check the basics. The fluid is ruby red and the tranny does not have any codes. I will do as you requested and check the FSM to check the drop resistor to see if it passes.

Sorry I am getting back to this thread a bit late but I checked the drop resistor and it reads 12.3 ohms which its within spec. When I mentioned it to my parts man at Nissan, he mentioned it being an issue with the shifter cable itself. When I noticed mine, the end of it where it attaches to the neutral switch is made from rubber and the new ones are aluminum. Could this be the culprit? If so, how difficult is it to replace this cable? does it go all the way back to the shifter?

Sorry man, i didnt mean to seem belligerent.. The cable Does goall the way back to the shifter, but iirc theres a rod that it attaches to at the shifter itself? Check the FSM for specifics if you can find them. Otherwise stay tuned!

Yeah I just checked the cable through this link from courtesy: http://www.courtesyparts.com/maxima-...1851_1870.html

It points to me having to order 34935M which looks like a headache as I have to go through the firewall. The FSM doesn't show me how to replace the cable but it shows adjustment...unless I am overlooking something.

Did you figure out the issue? I'm having the same problem now. I checked the drop resistor and its good, my tranny fluid is red and full to specs. I'm needing some input please if anyone has resolved this issue. FYI I have a 97 maxima SE auto with 118,000 original miles. Thanks in advance.

I am sorta having the same problem on my 95 auto. However when it was given to me. They told me it needed a transmission filter and fluid change. My friend also had the same problem on his 2000 & he said it fixed the slip or delay in his tranny. So This is what im going to try to diagnose my problem. I will keep you all posted to let you know how it works out for me.
