fyi: front bumper reinforcement weight

for anyone who cares to know, the stock front bumper reinforcement weighs ~ 22.5#'s on a 96 gle. a no name rockauto replacement weighed 8.5#'s.

nissan did go to steel for the supports for a reason tho

above is the same low speed test. 95-96 had alu and 97+ had steel

my 96's front (and rear also) bumper reinforcement was steel. i posted the weight of the rear here a while back. the oem's are much more substantial (especially the front), or at least compared to the aftermarket no-name replacements i got. i believe it was the 95's that had aluminum & that the 97's were redesigned more subatantially (the rear almost certainly).

LOL, thats a great pic. Still, I don't see how its a viable test unless you back up into a post. I want to see a real fender bender!

Wow! That's some good weight I can shave off my car.

Too bad removing the bumpers on a Maxima is worse than pulling teeth.

95 only had aluminum.
96 and up are steel.
