KYBs AGX's or Tokico Illummas. lol. With Tein H tech Drops I will buying the H-techs prob next week when I get paid, then I will be buying the KYBs by next month(after rent is paid. :P
I know what you guys are gonna say Search the best ones. But Know what I am talking about, I know this stuff but I just want to see whats the most relieble. (Just don't want a Jarring (interior squeaking ride) I dont wanna know what you think is the best drop or really care if you think Your prograsses are better or GET koni cause I am not gonna spend more. I am going with whats available to me and these two struts I hear a lot about for our cars more then anything.
The Ride is important but not extreme(just dont want it feeling like an STi or an Evo stock) much Unless you wanna tell me I am fine with that but everyone lives in different areas and has different setups and people who give opinions of struts they don't have actually experience in, is what I see a lot on here.
My only issue comes down to reliability and how much load they can take for the rears. I have a 110-120 lb box in the back trunk and it makes me current stock springs look out of level (also making the front look higher?) and thats why I am going for the H techs because its only a 1.1 drop in the back and a 1.6 drop in the front which is perfect imho.
Pros and cons for KYB AGXs?
4 way adjustable.
Better color.
Heard them lasting longer.
Better ride
(cheaper on Ebay $450)
little more Reliability(but thats up to the person of course)
From what I heard American made(I like everything made in Japan for our cars but I think brakes and Suspension is better in america made for some reason)
Something about the name of KYB sounds so much better. lol
Reasons for Tokico
Slightly cheaper over all but more on ebay? ($499)
A lot of .orgers have them
I heard they are just like Stock but adjustable?...meh
Big Tuner brand. Civic fans squirt for Tokico around here...So they must be good right?
Ugly white color.
Not as a adjustable at KYBs
Then later (when I get more cash for these Rims.

for ease of adjustment... kyb.
you jack up the rear of the car and the **** is right there. With the Illumina, you pretty much have to remove the interior trunk lining and contort your body to adjust them. The fronts are pretty much set up the same iirc.
So if you feel that you are going to use that feature, I would do the kyb.
But, I have had both and I must say that I found the kyb a VERY temperature dependant ride. 10 degrees made a HUGE difference in the quality of the ride. Hotter and the ride got softer. I found myself adjusting the kyb's more often than I have with my tokico setup.
I did vote for the tokico setup as I wanted a set it and forget it ride.
One other thing, kyb will warranty a drop of up to 2.2 inches. Tokico I believe is only 1.5 inches. Just thought you should know. I am pretty sure on those numbers, but you will want to research that just to make 100% sure. Been a while since I read the warranty card.

Nice. thanks JS, You were like the most helpful one here. And acutally telling me why they are better. I don't like when people are just like Get this and this cause they are better and I can't tell you why they are better. lol. Reminds me of the Blowup of Cattman stuff back in the day were his stuff was only just a little better but at double the price of other products. lol

I have AGX's myself and like the ride on Eibach's. I have the struts set pretty stiff and it handles like a dream. I've heard better things about the Illumina's, but adjusting the rear would annoy me. The choice is yours.

Rear = pull back plastic trunk liner, set setting, put liner back.

My AGXs were always temp sensitive. Cold mornings made them really stiff, and therear adjustments werent too bad. I could just lapy down and rach around to the **** and turn them.
Howver once you find your prefered setting you want be changing them to much afterwards.
Illuminas are they way to go if you want a more comfortable ride.
Even though these struts are ajustable, they still arent designed for a real aggressive drop. I blew both my front after a year or so riding on Sprint springs, which at the time were the lowest riding springs available.
Exactly, not too difficult.

well it seems kinda pointless to get them on ebay. I am just gonna get The Ills from that Import guycarpartplus guy I guess. I seem to can't really find them that much cheaper other then $473.74 @ performance peddler, but I dont know how slow their shipping is. And Import says I can get mine in 2 days. SO I am prob gonna do that instead.

I've heard and seen alot of people going with Tokico my guess is because they're a bit cheaper idk?? im also in the suspension buying phase myself. i did a lil reasearch, and found quite a bit of not-so-good reviews about them not so much with kyb agx. one thing i remember reading was that after awhile they get stiff. but yea i guess it all depends on the driver.

No experience with Tokicos, but I have no complaints with my AGX's on Tein S.Techs. Maybe a little harsh, but I don't drive the car much so it's not a huge concern to me. Can;t comment on the temp differneces though. Either don't notice it, and/or don't drive it in the winter anyway.

illuminas are more expensive than agx.
tokico is a better brand than kyb. kyb is the largest shock company in the world its mass produced.
tokico is an oem brand their main word of mouth is lasting a long time.
its also mass produced it just isnt that mass produced.
Koni and bilstein are better brands. As you reach the illumina level though you are almost at the koni level. Might as well go for it actually.
