CODES WONT DELETE
my cel came on because of a speed sensor. i put in a new sensor in. and the code wont go away. i have unhooked my battery for 2 days before to see if the code will delete but it wont. as soon as i start it up the light comes right back on.

Does the same thing happen..
If you "clear" with a scanner, do the codes also stick around? What code is it exactly?
I'm not too familiar with a speed sensor, but just putting in a new one doesn't guarantee the problem is solved. For instance, on the knock sensor, many people put in a new one and can't clear the code, only to find the grounds need to be adjusted or a new harness is needed.
Was the wiring/harnesses around the speed sensor all replaced as well?

In spite of my posts
I'll say the MAF/TB/IACV/EGR cleaning isn't as hard as it seems. If you do it as a weekend project, I can pretty much gurantee you can get the MAF/TB/IACV portions off on a Friday night after work in about an hour or less. They really are easy.
The EGR part is the hard part, but again depends on how easily your nuts come of the bolts and how good you are with the hacksaw cutting the "too long" bolt.
Seems you're quite a few levels ahead of me in car smarts, I imagine it will be an easy project for you.
Might want to order your new gaskets today though, most dealers don't have them in stock...

Gaskets are cheap. 6 bucks or so. Get the gasket before u start. Vacuum leaks can be caused by replaced worn gaskets.
speed sensor prolly go off after u drive for a lil bit. Call nissan, they will tell u how long it takes. I did the same when i replaced my MAF

its weird because it runs awesome. very steady idle revs quickly and has tons of power and now matter what temp it it all i got to do i tap the key real quick and it starts right up with no hesitation.

Yeah
gaskets are like $3 each, you need 1 for the TB, 1 for IACV, and 2 for the EGR tube (1 for each end).
I ordered from Courtesy Parts, but you could try your dealer. they should order them for you and i think they don't charge shipping, depends on the dealer though.
I'm a ways away from a dealer so I just order them delivered to me. Sad thing is, on an order for just gaskets, shipping will be just as much as the gaskets themselves.

Well if it runs great...
Then sometimes its best not to mess with a good thing. Go to Zone and get a free scan and see what codes are popping up to cause CEL. If its only the Speed Sensor and you are 100% sure you've fixed it, maybe you can ignore it and just go to zone once a month and get a free scan to check for other codes.
believe me, if my can ran smooth right now but the CEL stayed on for something I knew I fixed, I wouldn't bother spending to much time effort trying to clear the code, but that's me.

A week after I bought my 97 I got a CEL for the VSS. I replaced it, reset the ECM and still had the same code. I did some research on here that showed that a problem with the speedometer was also a source for the VSS code. Found a brand new speedo on E-Bay real cheap, had the miles matched, put it in and the VSS code went away.

got it.
i got the cel to go off. i turned the screw on the ecu and it flashed the code at me. then i turned it back and then back to diagnostic mode then back and it went out and now cel for couple days now.
