I wonder if there's a way to get this working for our 4th gen!! Like maybe get the key cut and then set it up with a compatible alarm system... switchblade keys are so kool, it sucks that we cant have it lol
I'm thinking of chancing my luck with this, i'll buy it and transfer the electronic circuit board from my existing remote into this and get the key made, yes yes.
Noticing the fact that it doesn't have 99 listed ....
99's have transponder. this says it works with maximas through 00's but is likely just chinese noobness. you're probably sol when it comes to useless stuff like this.

but do you think that it would be easier if somebody could just get a 5th gen remote to work with the 4th gens? thats what im trying to figure out... if anybody knows if or if not it can be done
I always wondered about switching the transmitter chip from the 4th gen key fob to a newer one..
Does anyone have access to a 5th gen or newer key fob that they can pop open and get a pic of the board? The 4th gen fob just pops open at the seam with a screwdriver so it shouldn't be a big deal.
I'd be willing to sacrifice my old 4th gen fob to try to switch transmitters if it looks like it would match up..
I am contacting a few companies that might be a pseudo fix for you to consider. However this would include replacing your existing system. I plan on a multi-vehicle/multi-end solution that uses bit encryption, rolling freq, and RFID for 'ignition on'. (This would be similar to the M45 key.) It would not have your cool flip-out key. The two major options I am considering are touchscreen and Android OS link. (The latter being the more likely of the two.) It would provide GPS coordination tracking as well as possible vehicle ignition enabling.
As far as putting your 4th gen into that flip-out, or any flip-out, too easy; with one possible preclusion (a rather large one at that) - board size. IF the board fits, just make sure you buy the shell/donor-flip-out with the buttons. Also, it might be necessary to adjust placement or rewire for the push switches.
I purchased a switchblade type key for my 4th gen a couple weeks ago.
That's the image from the ebay auction, from the seller "mykeyless".
The remote worked great, had pretty decent range, the buttons are a little sensitive tho.
However, the case of it was a lot larger than i expected. And, it was a little separated on one side. The key flipped out a little too hard and seemed to make the split worse, and, the key itself was separate from the pivoting metal piece on the fob. It was loose and seemed like it could pop out at any moment.
I wasn't very pleased with the construction of the fob; the electronic board was the only part i felt was quality.
Can you still get these anywhere (preferably with a working remote) anymore. The only ones I can seem to find are for the 5th Gens. And yes I already know 5th remotes to not work with my 1999 Maxima. But what would it take to get it to work?
I don't know if anyone still sells flipkey remotes for the 4th gen. You'll have to keep searching and see.
But you cannot feasibly "modify" a 5th gen unit for 2 reasons.
1) the radio frequency used by the 4th & 5th generations is different.
2) the shape of the key for the 4th & 5th generations is different.
Thank You I was wondering about the actual key part too. I did find the physical keyblade for my car anyway. I just need to find away to switch that part out. What about cannibalizing a 4th gen remote parts and using them in a 5th one?
Idea 1:
I have a OEM Maxima remote. It is beat up and broken but the buttons and everything inside works just fine. We have had this Masada Flipkey remote at work for since 2011/2012. I would play with this remote all the time when I was bored. I finally took it home last month. It has four buttons just like the Maxima remote.
The board inside the Maxima Remote is too large to fit inside the Masada one. But I was thinking maybe I can get an aftermarket remote and MacGyver something, somehow to fit and work with either the Masada remote or 2002 Flip key remote.
Idea 2:
I know that these 2000 Maxima remotes do not work. But is that only because they do not have a transponder chip? If so I can just pull one out of my keys.
Then just purchase one of these:

Idea 3:
Does anyone know if any of these will fit work?
The e-bay shell fob looks the most promising to me. It looks like the key blade comes with the fob, so hopefully the dimensions are correct for the 4th gen.
On those chinese web sites you posted links to, read carefully. I think that the Qinuo one is a wholesaler with a minimum order of 500 pieces.
Yeah Asian ones just to get confirmation if they would work or not. If they do then I will go about attempting to find a place that sells them individually (preferably in North America).
I think the fifth gen is most promising as well. I just need to know if all I have to do is install my transponder chip in it to get it to work with my 4th Gen. I have a second idea if that does not work. I noticed on both remotes that the lock, unlock and maybe the trunk buttons lineup. Maybe I can just swap out the boards.
