Okay Noob Question...Hole In Exhaust

Okay....So I am a noob when it comes to cars. This guy is selling me his 5 speed Maxima....The only major issue is that he says theres a hole in the muffler..lol furthur explaining he said its on the exhaust near the gearbox. Can someone explain to me if thats on the Y pipe? or where exactly it is? I don't know where the gearbox is. And what exhaust part would i need to replace.

Oh and I did ask the 2 questions: Is it smoking and is it leaking exhaust he guaranteed that it not.

Im going to check the car out in a few days and I just want to sound like I know what im taking about FOR SURE when I check it out.
PLEASE AND THANK YOU!

exhaust near the gearbox. Yup thats the y-pipe.

LOOK at the tranny housing. If u see any signs of tranny fluid on it, WALK AWAY. 5 spds are notorious for faulty differnetial bearings and a telltale sign is fluid on the tranny around the axles.

We cannot tell you what part of the exhaust has the hole without a picture of it.

Therefore:

Have the car checked by a mechanic before you make the purchase.

- the gearbox is to the left of the engine
- no the muffler is not on the y pipe, do you mean there's another hole on the y pipe?
- please write proper sentences, if not at least end it in a period(.).

Thanks I will look for that. I appreciate the help.

And for the rest of you I will try to get pics. I will also try to be more specific after I see the car.
