Transmission shifting really HARD into drive from a stop!

Ok heres the deal...I just replaced my 97 automatic se transmission with a 99 SE-L automatic and I had a transgo HD2 reprogramming kit installed.

Now I love the way it shifts from 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 but when I put it in drive and try to go from a dead stop it will rev to about 1500 rpms and slam into gear!! Just like I'm doing N drops!!!. If I put it in 1 or 2 it doesn't do it. only in drive. It will also roll backwards if on a hill in drive and the brake is released like it is in N when it's really in drive. Once rolling it works perfect!
Also It will stay in drive after a complete stop for a few seconds then the rpms will fall and the tranny will again kick out of gear until 1500 rpms when it slams back in gear!!
This is really really BAD and hard on the new tranny WHAT is going on!

you may think it's hard on your trans.
it's actually hard on your mounts and cv joints.

it sounds like the shifter isn't in drive FULLY.
i have a feeling if you were to put the shifter in between D and 2 it'll be fine.

I think that the transgo kits are a crap shoot. I installed the regular shift kit and while 1-2 got slightly better 2-3 caused a HUGE slip. All instructions were followed to the "T".

Did you confirm the trans was good prior to the kit and did you get any kind of warranty with the kit install?

If so go back to the installer and make them figure it out.

The transmission was used(but I had it checked before install?? No warranty just their word......so I guess I'll have to take it back and have them look at it.

I had them inpect the clutches and stuff before install . they had it apart for sure. it doesn't slip or anything so I guess mechanically its ok but that doesn't mean there's not something wrong electronically though.

My trans was doing the same thing. At a stop if I didn't baby the throttle, as if though I was driving a manual and slipping the clutch, the auto would rev up and drop kick into gear. I drove it like that for 6 months before the differential dowel holding everything together broke and went through my diff case last week. Luckily got a good trans for $375 out the door from a junkyard. Next time I swap the trans I'm using an engine hoist rather than wood and jacks to lift the trans into place.

now it acts like the e-brake is still on. it goes in to gear but will not go and will not rev. if in park or N it will rev. but not go. and in any other gear it will not go but will slowly rev like it's pulling a huge trailer even when flooring it. then it will just slam in to gear and go. but will not shift.

Oh and the fluid is foamy.....cold....havn't checked it hot yet

replace the trans filter and put nice clean fluid in it do not overfill it or you may have the same stupid problem. if that doesnt solve your issue im afraid you may need a torque converter.if your trans has over 90k on it dont touch the fluid re-use it but definitely replace the filter.

BTW It started working just fine I drove for about a 1/2 a mile then it quit pulling like in N. I coasted into a parking lot checked the fluid (about 1 quart low) added fluid. turned it off and it started pulling again. then at about the 1/2 mile mark it quit again and I coasted home. The only other thing I did was unplug and replug the TPS.
