intake question

so i have just the stock intake system.... but i looked at it the other day and im missing a hose or something, and was wondering if any one could tell me what its for or where its supposed to go

its farther back a little bit and its on the bottom side of the intake hose right behind the radiator. and its before it goes into the air filter

Yeah I think its most likely the resonator tube. What I did was just find a cap or whatever that fits the hole and seal it off.

A loooong time ago I believed that opening the resonator tube would help give me more power because I'd be getting in more air, but I was wrong. Sucking in lots of hot air gave me the opposite of what i wanted.

What is the purpose of the resonator under the battery?

ha i dont know... not to sure what it is really, isnt it just supposed to cancel out other sounds and make the car even quieter then it already is?

I noticed a good gain in power using a maf adapter and cone filter vs. my stock air box. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-96...item2eacc742ce

Are you guys talking about this kinda rectangularey tube:

Because I took that over-the-radiator tube off to bleed my clutch slave cylinder and I feel like that connection didn't go back on correctly. It's mad loose now, just sitting there instead of being joined by something, and I feel like it took a little tug to get it off. Is this supposed to be connected in some fancy way?

No this is for the snorkel, and mine is the same way it for some reason isn't connected in anyway to the air box, it just kind of flops around. BUT if you follow that snorkel and come to a part where a round tube goes straight down and then under the battery that is the resonator.

The resonator is basically a empty box, and it is supposed to make our engines quiet.

Ah. Well, my round tube is connected quite snugly to the resonator tube, so I guess I'm in good shape. Thanks.

Haha I am really curious whether removing that resonator makes the car louder or not. I took mine out so long ago I don't remember anymore.

Was reading a thread here in which one poster does extensive testing and then defends himself and his work with a vengeance. He found the car better with the resonator sealed off. Some were cool with it, others were doubtin'/hatin', and one even suggested that the box might have been a filter for leaves/ water, etc rather than a resonator.

I'm not saying I doubt his results, but I don't think the engineers put a plastic box in the car for no reason, even if I have no idea what that reason is. Having very little interest in going fast, I am happy to leave the box on the car if the only gain is some power.

That said, I am interested in hearing my engine a bit better - the road noise I am actively trying to kill, but the engine is too quiet for my tastes. Have you noticed it any louder since removing the mystery box?

I can tell you one thing for sure after going back to stock from a ram air intake, the sound is definitely different and a lot quieter. But the power is great!
