Has anyone replaced a hood?

Is it difficult? Especially getting the alignment right. Is this a DIY job?

No, what are you talking about? There's no way anyone on maxima.org could've replaced a hood. Sorry but you're in unexplored territory. I hope things work out and you can do a write-up for us.

Flava has a carbon fiber hood.

Cant imagine its that hard. Remove hood struts and some mounting bolts prolly. might take an hr. O yea, remove lines for window wiper fluid.

What cashoit said. If you can change your oil, you can change your hood.

I've replaced at least 7 hoods on 7 different cars and as long as theres no frame damage you'll be alright with the alignment

I watched the local body shop install mine in under 15 mins with 2 pairs of hands. He said there are no adjustments for OEM hoods and it really quite simple. Easily a two man job but one person might have a little trouble

the hood takes less than 15 min to get off, you unscrew the hydrolic posts that hold it up and then the four bolts holding the hood and watch out for the hose that supplies the windshield washer fluid, i cut mine then got a hose connector thing to put back together but I'm sure there's a way of completely removing it without cutting it, and then the hood comes right off, and to line it back up screw it on and but keep them somewhat lose and then with the hood down but not latched move it left right or whatever way you need to move it, and your done

Appreciate the offer, only problem is I still have to locate the hood. I'm looking for OEM hood in Sterling Mist in excellent to mint condition. I know it's not going to be easy to find. I've checked with many salvage yards in Chicago and Milwaukee area so far not much luck. Any suggestions are welcome.

My hood has dents too big for PDR but otherwise it's in perfect condition. I don't want to have it bondo'ed and painted due to expense and color will not match. So I'm trying the salvage route.

They are hard to find, I don't mind paying for the shipping (probably $150-200) if I could find one in excellent condition and Sterling Mist color.

From personal experience, their body parts are not bad for the price. Stay away from anything important like bumper reinforments (rebar) and radiator core supports and you'll be fine.

I've fixed a few crashed maximas and their fitment on parts isn't bad at all.

Thanks, I have been on there, I need Sterling Mist Silver/Gray not as easy to find as Gold. Many of them are not in very good condition, I already have a hood with dents. Maybe I will expand my search to more than just the midwest.
