bad ects?

hello all. i have a slight issue with my cooling fans, and am not sure if its due to a faulty ects.

ok...lets put it like this, when i start up my car up for the first time of the day, everything is fine. it warms up and then the cooling fans turn on. but, they do not shut off until i turn the car off. and its like this even if the motor is warmed up, if im parked for 10 mins, or 4 hours...the fans normally turn on, but never shut off.

also, everytime i come to a stop, i hear the fans sound like they wind down, almost as if i had the a/c on, and turned it off. when i take off from a light, after around 5 mph, i hear them turn on as if the a/c was turned back on. this happens even with the controls off. now during the time of the sound of the "a/c fans turning off and on", they never actually stop spinning...the fans are constantly running...and just "wind up" faster, until i come to that stop, and they "wind down" when i am stopped.

i thought a fan relay was sticking, so i swapped all 3 of them out, and also swapped the a/c relay out as well, with different ones, from i.e. the horns, etc.

my a/c operates perfectly, my entire car does, except for that. is this a bad ects...the one on the pipe that the upper rad hose attaches to? i heard we have 2 ects', is there a way to test the plug?

i dont know if this will help...in the winter, my thermostat was replaced. the car ran colder, not hotter. i replaced the thermostat a week after i noticed that.

You hit it right on the money. Get the ECTS replaced if you haven't changed it before. You can attempt tp remove and try cleaning but the part is cheap enough to just replace.

No no, don't get the one from AutoZone. I did and the connector is completely different. There is only one ECTS and one Temp Sensor next to it which is for the gauge.

Ok the first link is your ECTS. That one in the pic has thr right connector as well. The second one is the temperature sensor which is for the gauge inside the car. If the gauge functions correctly, there is no need to replace it unless you just feel the urge of doing both.

I never bothered with the sensor and just plain ol forgot to return it. I eventually went to the dealer and paid a little under how much Autozone had it for.

Did you replace it with an Everco or a Duralast ECTS?

I'm having the same problem with my cooling fans so I'll try changing the ECTS.

Check your radiator hoses and see if they are of equivalent temperature. If your upper is hotter than your lower, then your thermostat is defective again...sorry
