need some help on parts. decided to replace the rear calipers on my 1999 maxima. I am going to do it with my friends help. I found CARDONE to be the choice. Are they decent ?,and is there a site that people like to buy parts off . No autozone -hate there stuff always have has problems. Also should i replace brackets also there rusted. also do you need a bleeder plug I see offered.Thanks again This site has helped me over the years .

 

I had to replace my calipers 5 years ago because I stupidly did not use my parking brake for about 5 years and the emergency brake piston in the right rear caliper froze the caliper. I replaced the pads at the same time. The rotors were fine.

I bought the parts at a locally parts supply store, with a corporate discount, and had a shop install them.

Calipers (net of the core charge) and Raybestos pads installed were Cdn$400 taxes included. It would have been $1,000 at a stealership. Rust was not an issue.

 

If the caliper brackets are rusted then replace them also. They're usually around $20. Also check those guide pins that the caliper slides on. They mount in the caliper brackets.
When I replaced my front caliper brackets 4 years ago I tightened them too hard so they broke off when I loosened them last year. Put silicon grease on those caliper bracket mounting bolts.
