Ok. today i bought a warpspeed y pipe and was wondering what i have to do to reset the ecu so you can actually gain the power your suppose to get after installing the y pipe. im jw because as i was searching around some people say that they felt no gain at all and others say they felt a major difference?

you cant do anything to the ecu loooolllll, the gains are self achieved when you replace the y pipe, its not electronically controlled

yea but i thought i read somewhere that in order to get the gain you have to reset it so the ecu knows that there is more air flow than before

Just install it. No need to reset the ECU.

Your test pipe is what caused your "big sound". With a stock catalytic converter, the sound barely increases. My warpspeed only makes an increase in sound but only at a certain rpm. I converted from Cali to fed spec which I believe contributes to most of my volume gain. It will be MUCH quiter and sound way better than an exhaust system with 3 holes.

bro don't sweat those guys! you are right, alot of posts tell you to unplug the neg. battery cable to "reset" the ecu, so as usual they are being jags. With the Y-pipe, you should be fine without doing it, your ecu will adjust to any mods very quickly. Have fun with it, and I have the same Y and test pipes with Borla muffler and it isnt very loud, just more fun..

Same here, even with automagic the ypipe make gains everywhere in the rpm band.
Its a lot louder then stock exhaust but i can tell the difference each and every time I switch maximas.

well today i took i wanted to see if i could take off the nuts without snapping the studs on the manifold and surprisingly i didnt snap a single stud. it looked really rusted and i bet that those nuts havent been touched since they were put on at the assembly line. and that was 230 thousand miles ago. the only thing i couldnt get off were the nuts that connected to the cat. converter. guess i can just cut those off.

I have a car with 90,000 miles in California and broke one of those. Just try to get it off. When it breaks, grind it flush, drill 2 new holes and use the bolts provided.

You meant it isn't a lot louder? Am I the only one who thinks that it isn't that much louder?

Not sure if it's the test pipe ... or the CAI, full exahust, Y pipe ... dunno. It did get a bit louder with the addition of the new Y pipe though.

what does it matter if u reset the ECU or not. Jus reset it , its not like it hurts the car or something. Technically, u supposed to reset the ECU anytime u work on the car anyways.

Um, just a thought. To reset all the electronics usually you disconnect the battery for a good half an hour...

Which by the way if you were careful you should have done BEFORE beginning the install, and re-connected only after everything has been finished.

IMHO, never hurts to have no power in the system when ever you are doing anything besides taking off the wheels or changing the oil.

For changine the oil? It hurts IMO, damaging the terminals and resetting clocks and stations isn't worth it. There is NO reason to disconnect the batter when changing oil.

got and installed my y pipe today and it was pretty straight forward with the install except the getting the cat. converter to seperate from the stock y pipe was a b****!!. but after that it was real simple. when i first started it i was actually surprised how loud it was. it has a real deep growling sound to it but sounds pretty cool when i slam on the gas. as for performance gains i noticed a little but not to much. maybe the car hasnt adjusted to it yet?

A question, on ebay warpspeed is selling a number of different Y-Pipes, there is the cheapy 199, and the one with a high flow cat for 285. Question is, how big of a difference does the high flow cat make?

PS
EsQueue, that's what I mean :P you don't disconnect the power when changing oil or tires. Any work on any engine parts though, doesn't hurt to disconnect IMHO. BUT, if you know otherwise, please do correct me.

Oh, I interpreted it incorrectly. I thought you disconnect for an oil change. In that case, reseting the clock and radio and having your ecu run diagnostics would be annoying if anything. I agree with you that it should be disconnected for most work.
