What would a not-fully-disengaging clutch do?

What would a not-fully-disengaging clutch do?

Would it:
*Make the shift lever stiff, with the engine on, off, clutch in, out, whatever
*Make my driving all herky-jerky if I was too quick off the clutch
*Make clutch uptake very finicky

tl;dr: i refilled my leaky clutch and bled it and it's good

Question time:

1. Why wouldn't fluid go into a leaky clutch system if I top off the reservoir, even with judicious pedal pumping? Does this mean that what's slowly dripping out is being replaced by air? Does this mean I'll have to thoroughly bleed my system every time I add fluid?

2. What does a burnt smell in the clutch fluid indicate, if anything? I'm not hard on the clutch, but I can't see how it would make a difference - the fluid's job is just to push or don't push as dictated by the pedal. Does it mean my cylinders need replacement?

3. Why do I have two puddles? It is just the line connecting master and slave cyl leaking and dripping off at two points? Is the best first step to take here replacing that line? If so, how hard is that? If it helps, I thought bleeding the slave cyl was pretty easy, and I have dexterous little-boy hands.
