miles=power?
i have a 99 se with minor mods. cai, headers, y pipe, factory cat, magnaflow catback, and a 3 deg timing advance. i also have 204k miles i have alot of plans for my engine but i afraid the mileage is to high. is it possible to crank out good power now that its old?? i dynoed it at 195k and got 165 horse and 218 torque. with my current mods. any help is appreciated./ mods in mind; 00vi swap, lower mani, upper mani, tb, ecu, manual trans, tune// 75 sho(dry) (maybe) s/c

200K is that a joke?
There are members on here who will laugh when they see this thread. I know alot of people who are bottle feeding their VQ's at 300K.
Hell some people will even say (and i agree) shes just getting broken in
But, theres an assload of threads on what you should do, its personal preference really, what you've got is a good start, but most definitely get a 00VI.
Its all about how you treat her, if you change your oil more than you go to church, either you dont go to church or your doing it right!
BTW, after rereading your dyno results... That seems awfully high on the Torque side... But the Ponies looks about right; most Autotragic's are around that nowadays.
If your worried do a compression test.

Now if you were asking about a Neon or Galant, that would be another story

My dad's Maxi is quickly approaching 300k miles, and save for the knock sensor that we haven't replaced still burns away so many cars at the light.
Not to mention shifts much smoother then my girlfriend's dad's '02 accord that only has 80k miles!

im sorry for kinda changing the topic but i was just wondering, the 00VI and MEVI are just the intake manifolds right? and whats the difference and what does the 99 max come stock with?
but i got 15800K and after i get a new transmission the mechanic offered to buy my car for $6500 lol he said that it has a brand new clutch, transmission will be brand new and the engine sounds like the ones he heard back in 99 lol

^^^ 6500 is not bad deal. I wd take it and buy a 6th gen hehe.
OP,
if u gonna do another mod jus do the 00vi swap. S/C is epxensive, 3000 bucks last i saw. 00vi and tuning will get u another 20 HP for maybe 200-300 bucks, and some sweat.

ok well i coud take a picture of the dyno sheet and post it if you guys REALLY dont beleve me. and the timing advance is possible im surprised nobody knows about this BUT with the consult 2 scan tool you CAN advance your base timing you can also roll down your windows. if you dont beleveme just hook one up yourself of course that is if your tight with a nissan tech. dont treat me like i dont know what im talking about maybe you guys should do some searching hmmm??
#21
You can advance your timing, isent that pretty common with the E-U?
and miles mean nothing to a maxima, i take mine up to 7200 for ****s and giggles on on ramps. just because the car laughs it off.

Yea I've read in many places that you can't advance the timing on the 4th gen... Hell, I run 93 Octane ONLY so if I can somehow advance my timing, I'd be as happy as a pig rolling in shi!t

You need a laptop for the cheap version below. Carputer would work great I would assume but it seems quite easy. Now I don't know about rolling down windows, but I wouldn't be too surprised.

^^ yeah dude thats not a consult 2 the nissan manufacture specific scan tool is yellow and about the size of a refridgerator, but you did say cheap version i dont know exactly what that one does, and i might need some help postin this picture of my dyno sheet i tried to post a pic of my car for a sig but it didnt work.

ok well before this thread get outta control....
To OP,
IMO 200k miles on any car is too many miles to be doin major or expensive modifications. However, the VQ is one of the most reliable engines ever made. I wd be more worried about the tranny failing before the engine. If u got the time and money, do the mods and enjoy yur car.

"It doesn't hook up to the OBD 2 port but it does hook up to the exact area where the OBD 2 port is but it's not the OBD 2 port it's something else." Please take a picture of where you hook it up to and if it's not the OBD 2 port then I've learned something new today.
On topic, 200K is nothing. In fact, you'll probably have higher compression if you don't seafoam out your engine every now and then due to the carbon buildup lulz. Not much higher, but it is noticeable when doing a comp test (Didn't do any engine cleaining for 100k miles and comp test was a consistent 5 psi higher across the board compared to the original day I bought it).

Wow talk about a thread out of control.
IBTL.
You can advance timing with numerous methods.
NIS-2 Connector is in the Fusebox
OBD-II is under the dash.
200K miles is NOTHING assuming maintenance was done properly!!! Listen to me I Know form experience.
Maxed out is correct BTW with almost any ACTUAL Professional Grade scanner you can advance timing on ANY ECU for almost ANY car! This is NOT NEW this is Old Knowledge and Part of standard Diagnosis procedures.
It is estimated that running 93 Octane you can advance the timing by 3*.
Also Maxed out im pretty sure running any grade of gas i can rack my timing up to around 17-18* at WOT dont quote me though....

actually after i advanced my timing i went to alldata to get the manufacturer specs at idle i then shut the car off and disconnected the battery after 10 minutes i started the car and checked the base timing and it was indeed 3 degrees advanced
oh and i almost forgot i only use shell v-power (93) i figure why not i think my cars worth it

Eeek, i will say ive never heard of the 3* remaining after Engine restart... Much less after ECU reset.. But if you can prove this you will have done something no one on this forum has before with a stock ECU i mean.

see thats why i need the idle specs in park or neutral then i can know for sure i forgot the specs and now at my dealership i have shopkey and it SUCKS. shop key said it was 16-18 deg. btdc at idle
