A/C Problem

A/C Problem
don't know what to do about this a/c
the a/c only works correctly through the middle vents
the side vents closests to the door seem to always be two levels below the middle
IE: if the a/c control is set to speed 1 the side vents blow nothing and the mid ones blow correctly and when i put it to speed 3 where the middles blow accordingly and the sides feel like speed 1

Sounds like the vent doors that regulate air are opened for the mid but not the outer vents. I've never looked at the maxima's vent doors but I know that grand cherokees are very prone to having those break and you can only get air from certain vents and sometimes it'll stay on heat or cool depending where it was last before it broke.
Are you sure that the wheel below the outer fans isn't set to closed?

You didn't indicate whether you have a manual or auto climate control system. It may make a difference.
If you have an auto system, I'd recommend runnning the self diagnosis test (page HA-70 in FSM). This could clarify if the vent door acutuators are working properly. Best first step before spending $ at a dealer, or disassemblying components.

If you can access a FSM, it may help you determine if it's the air mix door w/o disassembling 1st.
It may be something as simply as the side ventilator duct have come partially disconnected or isn't making a full seal back to the heater/blower.
Good luck

Need to do Preliminary Check #2 (FSM, page HA-27) If the compressor works (yes), refrigerant is good (yes?), then you need to visually check the air mix door motor and linkage operation (see HA-50). Unfortunately, you will need to visually inspect the air mix door by removing the instrument panel.
