Hate the new maxima styling
#46
Actually, I agree. The 4th gen styling is the best. Especially the 97-99 models. The 5th gen isnt bad in my opinion either. I think it is similar, just a wider and bigger model of the 4th gen. The 6th gens look like crap in my opinion. Worst gen of them all. It looks too ghetto if you will. I dont have enough exposure with the 7th gens to say whether they are worthy imo. I think they are def. better than the 6th gens though. I think it would be awesome if Nissan reintroduced a new model of the 4th gen similar to the new Mustangs and Challengers.

The 4th gen is bland. It's the one inherent quality of the fourth gen that bugs me. The third gen looked good. The fourth gen looks nice, but it doesn't stand out next to, say, an Accord - in fact, the '98-02 Accord is better looking, if you ask me. The only things that set off my '97 SE as a "sporty" car are the wheels and front bumper, and I guess the spoiler too but spoilers are stupid. In other words, the car is too inoffensive to be interesting.
Don't get me wrong - that's true of most cars from the jellybean '90s, and in that sense the A32 is one of the better-looking cars form that era. But I don't especially like it.
The fifth gen certainly wasn't inoffensive, but I don't think the styling experiment worked out in its favor. The sixth gen styling is decent, but makes the car look too big.
The seventh gen has got that flagship aura back. It looks big, it looks powerful, it looks expensive. I hated it when it was first released, and then I saw it in the flesh and it blew me away. There's a white one that parks by my apartment and it looks fantastic.

def. And it's too big. I guess that's because the Altima has moved upmarket. My dad considered buying a car in around '03 or '04, and he had his eyes on a sixth gen. I told him to just go for an Altima 3.5 because it was essentially the same thing, but a few thousand cheaper. The dealer told me I was a wise man.
Instead, my dad waited three years and bought a used Town Car. That car is awesome.

Will still leave your car in the dust!
Oh so the 7th gen and 6th gen are too big and not worth it but a town car is your joking right

of course, even 5th gens have like 300hp or whatever stock. ive got a 18 year old car, with my mods i should be at 180hp but factor in age ive probably got 150-160hp. but anyways i never said i could beat a 7th gen, im saying 1st-3rd gens and some 4th gens have the best style, and 1st-5th gens at least had alot of stick shift models.
6th gens and 7th gens do look fat, they seem to be too luxury oriented. that and people puting 20's and 22's on them. lots of 5th gens came in stick, then 6th gens had some 5spd and like 2% 6spd and the rest auto, then 7th gens come in just auto. 4th gen Altima have 6spd and auto still, and i would take a V6 Altima over a 7th gen in a second
3rd gens brought curves to the family sedan, 7th gens offer little. all IMO

point is, 4th gens rock and thats that!!! i did'nt like the 3rd gen cause they looked exactly like the stanza's from back then too. i had a 92 stanza and people always asked me if it was a maxima, thank god i waited around until i found my 4th gen cause i did'nt want another "boxy" styled car.

My point was just that the Altima has really moved upmarket from where it used to be. I have driven my cousin's '97 Altima and it feels small, cramped, and stripped compared to my '97 Maxima. Contrast that to the Altima from the mid '00s, which was only a little smaller than the contemporary Maxima and could be had with pretty much the same engine and features (except that cool sunroof).

My 06 6spd manual smokes G35s and most 350Z but it a big heavy family sedan that's slow? Who are these clowns that talk out of their a$$es and don't know shet?
A town car?? I hope you're over 50 or a mobster in need of a big trunk.

or whatever 255hp, i dont know 5th gens well.
3rd gens are curvey, look at Camry's and such and theyrey while 3rd gens have more curved edges. 3rd gens were in Car and Driver's 10 best for 1990, beat Taurus SHO and Camry, and got the best 4dr sedan from Road and Track. cant say that for 5th gens

1. Yes, he is over 50. He's 67 in November.
2. The Maxima is not the last word in cars. There are other cars that are better at other things. In fact, I'd be hard-pressed to say the Maxima is "the best" at anything. It really shines because it's quite good at most things: it's a well-balanced, well-performing car. But for some, like my dad, comfort is more important than performance, and he is willing to sacrifice some things for it. As a younger person who prioritizes performance and economy over isolation, I can still appreciate the Town Car for what it is - a supremely comfortable, cheap, and reliable tank.

4th gens VQ's were the prototype....everything else is just an imitation..lol Yeah I know some will agree and disagree on that statement but think about it. What nissan car you know today that doesn't have a VQ engine available for it? Also, the VQ is still after 15 consecutive years, one of the 10 best engines of all time...(I even have to give my salute to those Japanese engineers who created this masterpiece during the 4th gen era.) Just recently I convinced my mother to get a 06 Pathfinder with a VQ40 and we just came from the dealer with it after complaining about a noise coming from the engine..problem was fixed but you know what had to be done..all the timimg chains including cams and guides were replaced. After seeing this, I looked up and found out that its a TSB which is disappointing...we never had such failures in any 4th gen...and very few TSB for serious stuff compared to the ones today.

Dude, Never, Never by a Hyundai. Ever, ever, seriously.
Wow, I never thought this threat would stir the pot so much and it was not my intention to trash other gens. I just thought, since our cars are old, but we still keep them, add mods, etc, so there must be something that we really like about this car to make us keep holding on them. To me, the styling, the size, the power and performance of this car are perfectly balanced, it is a very good family sedan, very reliable yet fast and sporty, it always sets our cars apart from Camry and Accord. From 5th gen up, I see those good characters of the car becoming less and less distinctive and though the car is gaining more power every year, the performance is not getting a lot of boost. The car become heavier, turning radius become larger. Nissan brought up Altima line to match Camry and Accord line and market Max as sport sedan, well, the market reacted, the sales keep going south and Nissan has to offer a big incentive to get car sold, I don't see that happens to Camry or Accord. I read comparison test between 7 gen max and Pontiac G8, no surprise, G8 won. If Nissan really want to make Max the true "sport sedan", they should make it rear wheel drive, bigger rims and shinny chrome do not make it "sporty". I was at dealership the other day having my Titan serviced, I checked both 2010 max and 2010 Hyundai Genesis, the max is bigger, more luxuries and expensive, but I will buy Hyundai Genesis, it is real luxury car, has more power, rear wheel drive, good looking and out performs max for about same amount of money.
Keep your Titan. Just say no to Hyundai's. What will it be worth in 2 years?? Drive the 2010 Max, all decked out & see what you think..

LOL @ this thread. Ima stay on topic cuz i know Aack is gonna flame this thread when he sees it lol....
The 7th gen looks dope. Its exactly what nissan made it out to be: a bridge between the altima 3.5 and G base. Its def more upscale than an altima but not as well built or refined as a G. Its right in between.

this. IMO Hyundai made crap until a couple of years ago and now theyre just trying to change their image with the Genesis. and ive known people that had Kia and Hyundai
funny thing is the junkyard here is full of Toyotas/Nissans/Mazda from 1960-1999 with high mileage, but theres lots of Hyundai and Kia that were not in a wreck and low mileage that are 2002+ models.
