To lower or not to lower?

So I just had a bunch of work done to my ride and for some odd reason my father decided ever so graciously to put a new suspension on my car... nice! Only problem is that I was going to get it lowered since I had some Progress lowering springs collecting dust and I can't stand the look of my ride's stance.

I've decided to keep my car as a winter ride and look for a G35 couple for the rest of the year ride. My new suspension has Monroe Sensatracs with stock springs which are a really smooth ride, but would like it to me a little more stiff and lower. How low of a spring if any can these handle w/o prematurely breaking? I'm looking at the Eibach or Tein H-Techs... Another potential problem, I have 18" '06 Maxima SE wheels and the fronts almost sit flush with the outside of the fenders, will they rub?

My ride is a manual and the wheel gap is a little over 3" on both wheels, the rear will be lower once I put the subs back in...

I would say lower it cause when I see Maxima;s sitting stock and hey pull off it just looks horrible I got Eibach's Springs with 245/35/20's and only rubs minor on turns major ones!!

The Monroe Sensatracs are stock replacements so they won't last long and will perform poorly with any drop.

hmmm, I heard they were better then stock and would be fine with anything above a 1.5" drop from one of the best suspension shops in town. I see people on here with KYB GR-2's and Tokico Blues all the time and they aren't rated any better...

Let's put it this way, the only struts/shocks for our cars that are made for lowered vehicles are the Illuminas and konis. Lot's of ppl lower cars with stock, blues, gr-2s, etc. but they aren't designed for that so they don't last as long usually. You can can do whatever you want and I do think that suspension feel is a subjective thing...what is harsh and poor to me may be awesome to you. So YMMV...

that's why I'm on here, trying to see if anyone actually has these shocks with lowering springs. All the places in town say it's fine and I've seen plenty on here that do it, but then there are people that say they won't last with lowering springs of any type.

Since this will be my winter/snow car, I'm not going to do something that's going to ruin my suspension when the car I'm looking at getting is low enough for me...

You notice how those in all those rap songs they always say GET LOW, DROP THAT BOOTY TO THE FLOOR...

Well in this case, you need to drop it like its hot and pop lock and drop it.

If it doesnt snow where you live I say lower it. If it does snow leave it stock. Its not fun high centering when you leave your driveway anter a good dump of snow.

Fuuckin' drop it man!! If the sensa tracs fail at some point then just replace them. If you already have the struts you might as well use them and replace if necessary at a later point but you should slam her man.

All you guys that are saying slam that **** aren't asking an important question. OP, if you drop it and the monroes die soon after, can you afford new ones? (assuming they aren't under warranty) You'll end up paying more in the long run to do things the "cheap" way. Do it right or do it twice...

That's the problem, it's snows all the time here... It's almost a guarantee. Last year was one of the worst I've been alive for.

I'm not going to waste money throwing away new shocks & struts if they are just going to fail right away! Looks aren't as important as common sense...

If you're not gonna get performance struts such as the Illumina's, AGX's or Koni's then don't drop it.

You'll regret it if you do it the cheap way and just throw a set of lowering springs on.

I've taken that into consideration, But how many miles do you have on your stock struts? and how many miles ago did you put your springs on?

So then, lowering on stock shocks is not the greatest idea, but how much of a drop can they handle safely? (1", 1.5", 2")?

Since it's your winter driver, leave in the stock springs.

i wouldnt drop it because i noticed that maximas are suspension cars. they are supposed to ride high. when you press the gas in a frontwheel drive car, the back lowers & the downforce on the rear mathces the pull of the front of the car. thats why the only car that beat my 96 SE With injen intake & cherrybomb muffler was a subaru impreza wrx. in the tuner class, i have cooked everything from mustangs to ford crown victoria interceptors, camrys, pontiacs, lots of people are buying maximas up because they know the true performance of them. & im from dc.
