Got some 4G questions....

Is leather available on both GXE's and SE's? What about GLE's? If not what are the basics for each trim package? Whats considered the fastest 4G? If I recall correctly, wasnt like the 97 the fastest, or am I confused? My bro is looking at possibly getting a 4G, he wants leather, and a 5spd. Info appreciated.

95 5spd max is the fastest 4th gen. Go to www.edmunds.com , you can look at all the options and such there.

95 and 96 GXEs are the lightest 4th gens, so they should be the fastest. I haven't looked at any other websites, but according to www.nada.com, the 96 GXE is the lightest of all. Its listed at 2886 lbs. Even lighter than the 95 GXE which surprised me. But the difference is pretty negligable. The quickest stock 4th gen on this board is VeeTec with his 97 SE. He ran a 14.71 with like a 2.09 60'. I ran a 14.87 with a 2.21 60' in my 96 GXE when it was stock, as far as I know that was the quickest time for a stock 4th gen on this board until VeeTec ran his time. So basically all 5 speed 4th gens are pretty quick, with the earlier ones typically weighing a bit less.

I don't know if you could get leather in GXEs as an option or not. My GXE doesn't have leather. I think its standard on GLEs, and definately an option on SEs.

He had his catback at the time. Not that a catback gives a whole ton of power of course.

Hehehe, cool. Right now he's got 2 Civic Hatchbacks, both modded. He's getting tired of the whole Civic scene so he's selling them and trying to get a 4th gen. Nice times!

Oh yeah, he wants to know what you guys are shifting at and launching at to get those times. I'm assuming redline and a clutch-dump, right? He just doenst want to be like bouncing off the redline to run those times ya know.

Doing that in a car with this much torque will cause massive wheelspin.

This is so true, my first time at the track I dumped at 5k. It resulted in a 19.87 1/4 time. So I guess I have the best improved time from 19.87 to 15.3

Wait, no, you misunderstood. I didnt mean rev it to redline and then dump the clutch (I'm not that dumb). I was talking about redlining each shift, and also a clutch dump (2-3k or so) off the line, as opposed to "feathering" the clutch and whatnot....

I pull 2.1 60s with a 2500 rpm clutch slip, keeps me just at the limit of traction (which is how you want it to be). I shift at redline (actually like 6500 but almost the same), 6300 in second and 6200 in third. 4th gen maximas don't make power all the way to redline, it really starts dropping off bigtime after 5800 or so. So running it to redline in all gears will hurt your time. A few people run it all the way to redline, but most people have found that they get better times by shifting earlier, including me.
