A/c help!

Hey guys, I've been having issues with my ac. Its not cold at all. Basically feels almost as if hot air is coming out. After a while or on low fan seeting it'll be kinda cool. But once you go past 2(fan setting) it gets hot as hell.

Its 90 here and i'm dieing. Please give me some pointers. Where do I start and whats the worst i'm looking at.

btw, cars a 95 max, with 165K on it

Yes, see if the clutch is engaging first. Check the condenser, is is clogged with debris? Check the static charge on the system with a set of AC gauges. Should be around 75-90psi, especially if it's 90*F or higher ambient. With the car running, AC full on, what are the LOW & HIGH side pressures? They should be in the range of 30-40 psi L & 170-220 H, again depending on the outside temp. The important thing to notice is, the difference in running pressures. There should be a substantial difference. If the LOW side is running up around 55-70, you can bet your compressor has an internal leak and must be replaced.

Not to sound like a noob, but clutch engage, like in transmission clutch? Or is there a clutch on the compressor. How can I tell wether or not its engaging, and where am I looking for cloggage.

Imma have a mechanice look at it soon, but was hoping to troubleshoot this myself. Was told that self recharging never works so maybe I ****ed it up when I tried to recharge it a while ago.

Go to the passenger side wheel and look at your clutch pulley when the car is on. You will notice the pulley moving but the disc in the center of the compressor is not whe the A/C is off. Have someone turn on the A/C, you should hear a click and the disc in the center should start spinning. That disc is known as the A/C Compressor clutch for future reference.

Also, if you overcharged the system, chances are that it is still functional as long as some of the excess freon is removed, the clutch should engage.

Install is maybe a 2, after you've got the system discharged - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKulYTlhfeA

Well guys I got lucky, for now. My mechnaic flushed the system, and sh*t is blowing colder than the arctic. I didn't know my car actually had ac like this. I always thought the auto just couldnt get cold enough.

But I will keep my eye out and see if it goes away, which would mena I have a leak. But knock on wood, it finally freaking works!

I need a push in the right direction please. This is my 2nd round searching and haven't come across my A/C situation please help. So I go to lunch and turn on a/c everything normal, i get back park and sit in a/c about 5-10min. When I push off on a/c panel air stops coming from vents and starts coming full blast from floor (outside air) while a/c is off. Whenever ignition is on air blows and if i turn a/c on through vents outside air still blows at feet. What do I need panel orrrrr.... leather seats + no a/c= 2xheat. Thanx U All
