Alright here's my opinion...

If you're gonna go with a 2-din (which yes, 2 din radios fit considering the Bose was a 2 in) at least go with a Navi/DVD headunit.

I personally think single din pop out screens look like *** but thats just me. They look cheap. I like a headunit that can pass off for a factory navigation type-look.

Look into a Pioneer AVIC or a Clarion

This is the unit I've had in my car for the past 2 years and although it is an older unit, it look awesome and has awesome features. I wish the navigation interface was made by Garmin but either way, its still gets you where you wanna go. I personally think that this unit almost looks like it was factory for my car (impossible I know) but I still get a lot of comments on it and people always ask if I can install one in their car lol

1. Pop-out is just another moving part to break. They're made for double-DIN coveters with single-DIN cars. You have a double-DIN car.

2. Touchscreens while driving is a bad idea. I used to have an iPhone. Ever try to change the song on a touchscreen phone while driving? It don't work so good. When you've got to keep your eyes on the road, you want a physical button in a static location for every important task you might want to perform.

BTW my car has a single din stereo...the ugly cassette tape player crap. i hate it so much...the freakin screen dont even work. i have to use the cassette adaptor thing to play my ipod touch. check the pic below...

@j-dawg..ur right about that touch screen thing...its not fun tryin to find a song on my ipod touch while driving.

In my headunit's defense
1 An iphone is NOT a stationary device, it will move with your hand and you go over bumps or turns, the headunit is solidly bolted down. So that'll definitely make a difference whether a button or not.

2. Most touch screen headunits have basic buttons such as volume, previous track and next track either on the side or bottom of the screen

tru dat i suppose..the phone was usually in one place, but unlike an HU it was liable to be at the home screen, phone screen, whatever, and I had to unlock it via that fuuckin' slide motion that you have to see the screen for. You would't have to do all that with a touchscreen HU. I replaced it with something better button-endowed.

That said, I'd still rather have tactile response for anything I need to do while driving.

I just recently purchased a new DD HU. I spent a LONG time considering what to get. I did not like the Kenwood as it is still stuck in that late 90's bling mode.

I liked the Clarion CX400 or CX609 as they look quite "nissan-ish" in their overall style. And the backlighting on the 400 is white/blue which would look good in the Maxima and the 609 is any color you choose so you can match it up.

Then I considered this too:

That looks very stock, is dirt cheap and does everything you need for the money.

But I settled on the Jensen VM9424:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...en+VM9424.html
I am not a fan of Jensen, but my wife's AVIC D-2's touch screen is on the fritz, so I already know a Chinese made stereo is a Chinese made stereo. I checked out the VM9424 in person at a local car stereo shop, and I was quite impressed. It doesn't feel cheap like all the other Jensen HU's there, it has excellent SQ, does almost everything and has tons of IN's and OUT's. So I bought it and so far so good. Best part is it looks stock in my Maxima and even the button illumination is the same grey/blue/white color of the Nissan.
For $440 it was a good buy.

My buddy has a clarion DD and its really nice except theres a feature I really like that I have and he does not. With my Avic, I can make the backlight for the buttons into ANY color. There are presets and then you can also mix the RGB to get a desired color. I currently have mine matching the climate controls, clock, and speedo light green so it looks 100% stock

I had the motorized Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD (sold it to a org member last year). It was nice and all. When it flipped out, it blocked off my ACC unit which sucked *****. Thinking about getting a DD myself, but it just raises the odds of my car getting broken into.

that's the main reason why i dont really want the flip up monitor thing...wouldn't be able to put on my ac or heat. but it dont look bad at all though.

Put it in the lowest pocket. The pocket below the double din is a single din and a regular single din bolts right in. Then put a pair of Nissan pockets in the double din opening, one with a door and one without. Problem solved

If it's a flipout, his gear lever could get in the way of the action. The **** on the 5sp comes up quite high, and if the auto is in park I could see it interfering too. Can you put it in the bottom half of the single-DIN adapter?

edit: just reiterating that I think flipouts don't make sense in a double-DIN-slot-havin' car.
