I dont have much money, and I dont want to modify my housings. Can anyone who's done both just tell me if DDM Apexcone HIDs in STOCK housings outperform the 9007 conversion. I may be working Swing shift soon and I drive 50 miles a day for work.
Im still bone stock with my headlights, and a coworker installed Apexcones on the ATV for the fire dept. he works with. Im convinced of the durability and brightness, just wonder about performance in my housings.

I've been using there HID conversion kits on all my rides (bagged truck, and wagon) all with the stock housings and have worked great. I just ordered 2 kits, one for driving and one for fogs, will be installing this week and will post some pics to see out put..
In your stock '95-'96, the light is gonna be all over the place because of the flutted lenses.
I was able to solve this somewhat by getting '97-'99 housings, re-aiming them a little lower and adding eyelids.

Not to mention it's illegal in some states to install.... Also can get a ticket, you could kill someone by blinding on coming traffic. I love HID's but they don't work in 4th gen stock housing. They do have aftermarket housing that are HID ready on ebay.

I see this every night and were I live those light are worst than regular high beams. You are actually blind for about 10 sec after coming pass one of these cars on a dark road.
True HID's point to the ground and gives off less glare than normal low beams... while giving the driver more visual of the road ahead 10 times

I wouldnt say 10x but when you go up more, for example, 6000-8000, the 6000 will have more visible light. the higher the number just gives less visable light and changes the color. Compare 6000 to 14000 and youll see what I mean.

please dont beat me. As previously stated and proven throughout this forum and history that HID in stock housings is a no no unless you have experience in what you're doing.Either do projector retrofit or do nothing at all.Quote:

How well do 9004 silverstar ultras perform in stock 96 housings? I am considering 9007 oem stock bulbs as well, I know the pros and cons but I think I can aim them low enough to be passable.
Would hid bulbs in 97+ housings work in my 96 front end?

9004 Silverstar Ultra's are terrible, I got better output from higher watt blue coated eBay bulbs. Originally Posted by asand1

The '97-'99 housings will work fine with your '95-'96 front end, that's my set up and I have no problems at all.

They're not actually terrible but they do not offer any more light output than a standard bulb. The light is actually whiter but they did nothing any different than the Nokya Brand,Luminics etc bulbs that one sees all over ebay, that are just tinted blue which actually decreases light output.I cant offer any input on the conversion but heres a thread on the subject:

ps. chrisman probably did get more out of the higher wattage bulb but you risk burning your factory wiring so one needs to make a harness to handle that.....to be safe but you COULD get away without doing all that.

I had those bulbs for months with no problems, luckily. Others do burn up their factory wiring so be careful if you decide to go that route.Originally Posted by memphisballer

Here's a pic of the output, they were pretty good for not being HIDs.

eyelids will do nothing for glare as the "stray" light is reflected off the bottom of the headlight housing. Best advice is to do a retrofit.Originally Posted by ChrisMan287
