$5.00 Non-Bose facelift

I picked up a Nissan Clarion nearly identical to mine for $5.00 at Goodwill. My original had heavily worn buttons and a dead LCD. The one I picked up has a good face and LCD, I powered it up in the garage. Ive already removed the good LCD from my donor stereo and I installed the good face to my original stereo. I installed my original stereo with donor face for functionality test and got 100%. Monday Ill remove the dead LCD and install the good. The Bench tech at the casino I work at gave me permission to use a workstation in the slot tech shop.

Donor stereo/Original face

Original stereo with dead LCD (face removed)

Donor Stereo with good LCD removed

Good LCD waiting for a new home.

Why don't you just get a reman double din clarion radio from ebay?? I know people don't use CD's these days but now you are still left with a blank space.

BINGO!! And because double din doesn't make the radio sound any better. For $5.00 my radio wont look like $h!t any more and I can see what channel I'm on.

Understandable...if you need the CD player add-on, let me know (gotta find it first).

If you are bored, this is is a good project, but I would just get a fresh headunit.

I swapped mine out for a kenwood and the price is very fair for brand new head units these days. For the power and options of an aftermarket head unit I'd say it's definately worth it. And install is easier than ever with the plug and play deals they sell for like $12.

the point is that there are more important things to invest/spend money on than in a car...even something as frivolous as a radio. come on. even stevie wonder can see the logic in that.

We go there all the time looking for cheap antiques, gently used clothes, and occasionally tools.

Things like food, rent, diapers, fuel, phone bill, electricity, water, internet, CC, Credit line, Van payment, doctor bills, and household items come first. I can listen to my radio and be happy. For $5.00 I can see what channel I'm on, and my face looks better, I'm good.

Thank you.
It's mostly junk, but I've gotten a caulking gun, circular saw blade, occasional snap on tool for $1.00. Its a crap shoot. I found an antique ladies makup compact for $1.99. It was identical to one on Ebay that was up to $200.00 and still open.

Great find!! AND cheap too. You've motivated me to check out the local Goodwills in the area. Might just be able to piece together a sound system . (Fingers Crossed) Come on 7" double din touchscreen receiver

Yesterday my tape player/adapter died while listening to Pandora. The tape would not eject either, So I tore it apart and proceeded to hardwire a cable for plugging in my phone. The install was going ok, but I caused a short by allowing the screen light to touch the frame, and I let the smoke out of a transistor.

Time for a new HU I guess.

You can get a CD player that reads mp3 for like 10 bucks these days. Time for upgrade.

The best way to find stuff at goodwill is stop in every time(well as much as possible) you drive by, i went there 1 day and there was nothing...went again the very next day and found a pair of timberland workboots the right size with tags still on em for 20 bucks, and they had a 100 pc craftsman socket set with just 3 non metric sockets missing for 25 bucks...so i left there and stopped at the hardware store and bought the sockets that were missing...i pretty much got 100 pc. socket set for 37 bux...when i do stop in i go right to the tools...im in and out in 3 mins....if you only stop in once in a while you have to be very lucky...tools dont last a day usually! ive been checkin out craigs lately and seen some sealed socket sets for half the retail price...im sure they are stolen...but someones gonna buy em right?
