At what point do you junk your Maxima?

I was wondering at what point would you consider getting rid of your Maxima. I love my Maxima, it has 302,000 mileage and still going strong. No major issues, just some normal wear and tear, such as rotors, brakes, belts, tires etc. People thinks I shouldn't have replaced my rear brake pads (just recently) but I beg to differ.

ill junk it when the body is junk...by that i mean totaled or damaged. All of that stuff you mentioned, including the engine, can be replaced!

A collision that brakes more than a fender or bumper. Major body rust, or tranny/motor failure...

My max was on the way to the junk yard when I bought it for $500. So far 1 engine rebuild, timing cover, radiator, 1 low mileage engine replacement, clutch, radiator fans, intake, nearly all sensors, battery, master and slave clutch cylinders, additional grounds, plugs, wires, speed sensor, repaired MAF circuit board myself, interior overhaul X 2 (once brass on black metalic, now all gloss black,) leather seats from junker (refinished,) carbon fiber hood, both bumpers, and a myriad of other changes. I'm not giving up on it yet! It would have to be totaled or sold; no way I'd ever junk it from frustration. (Though I have wanted to before.)

Bah! My max had two collisions and two motor failures. No reason to get rid of one! ^__^ Just a reason to learn how to do your own body/engine work!

listen to me, if you get rid of a car thats running fine then you deserve another car with problems. don't fix it unless its broke, keep it until she falls apart and then start over!!! once again, another pic of teh 95 200,000 bm1 blue max....

I Ain't Never Junking My Biitch!!!

My Max has like a 150,000 on her and I plan on putting another 150,000 on her. I've been very fortunate w/this find a couple years ago, I mean the body is tight, engine is sound, tranny is solid, interior is clean and a 4DSC is exactly what I need/want. My Biitch is sporty but also can acomodate a family man's need's. If your Max is in good shape then why would u want 2 get rid of her. If she run's good, bodies good and frame is safe 2 drive, the by all means "Fuuckin' Drive Dat Biiitch!!!"

For me to get rid of my car, the undercarriage has to completely rust out and my seats are about to fall through the bottom

get rid of it when the cost to repair it is more then the cost of buying a problem free maxima.

In other words, when your entire engine goes.

The cost + installation of another engine is cheaper than buying another "problem FREE" Maxima

not until god forbid i completely total it

i would rather have a car that ive owned for years, know inside and out and know what has been done on it and to it than get a new car.

I stand corrected, after this weekend project I am quite sure I will sell this before I'll ever repair the heater core again. EVER. It was easier to replace the engine.

My wife's has 304k. We bought it for $650 when it was on its way to the junkyard with a pushed in core support, horrid interior, and a suspension that would make Chuck Norris **** his pants to go over 45 on. It now has new suspension (struts, bushings, alignment, tires) the best black/gray cloth interior I could find, a few used coilpacks swapped out, core support pulled out courtesy of my truck and a towstrap, and a heavy cleaning and she's good as new. We've put over 10k on it since we got it. I have about $1500 invested in it total, and we have a solid reliable car.

God I love this forum! My friends are all going gaga over 86 corrola's and all this and I mention my Max and they look at me like I'm an alien. My '96 just hit 193k the other day and runs like a charm! I've been debating over getting a newer car but never did I think about junking this one. It was gonna be my project car. Right now its my daily driver all stock, and I still smoke idiots on the road and in my automatic! (I know, I want a manual soooooo bad) My car has outlived all my family's other cars. KEEP IT!

Never unless totaled. As soon as engine blows its 3.5 swap time as soons as trans goes its also swap time, so I don't see me junking it unless totaled.
