How do I seal the duct-to-airbox connection?

I am asking because this connection is loose, and the duct actually separates from the airbox after highway driving, because the airgoing through the duct hits the lip of the opening to the airbox. It is so loose that it seems there is a gakset missing. What can I put there to make it a snug fit?

There are some part #'s below for "packing"? Is that necessary? Can I use something other than Nissan's "packing" with the same effect, to seal the duct-to- airbox linkage?

Top of first diagram on the left is the duct assy, it connects to the airbox in the lower right, there is 16577C packing that seals the connection. Packing to me sounds like putty.
