As I mentioned before, this is a custom job, and it cost quite a BIT.

It costs me quite a BIT, I just do not remember all the numbers but some thing like .....
$100.00 for Low beam units (used A6 HID projectors); around $200 for High Beam units (made by Hella); and about $200 for new headlights assemblies (97-99 models from carlamps.com); $500-$600 for the HID kit and plus 300-400 hours of doing it (from what he metioned)...I just can not calculate them for now..... Warm Regards.

You are right, people would pay for this. Just like my case, I have spent hundred of dollars to get all kind of bulbs to make my headlight brighter before I got the real HID kit, but I have lost the high beam since, then I decided to go with custom job as you have seen it. Warm Regards.

If non-HID projectors are used. Also, if you go here:

http://www.susquehanna.com/susq/hella/90mm.htm

You'll note that the 90mm versions of these (which Hella makes OE for VW and Audi) are $60 each. This means about $240 for a set of high and low beam units. If one forgoes the HID setup, you can easily save hundreds of dollars here.

Shirtboy: If you are planning on marketing these yourself, would you be willing to sell the modified headlamps without projectors, so that individual enthusiast can choose their own light sources? If you are not planning on marketing this unit, would you provide us with some details on how what was used to form the back of the reflector which the projector units are mounted to?

After finally seeing this setup, it's a wonder to me why aftermarket companies haven't caught on to this. These things would sell like crazy. I've been waiting for something like this. It will completely change the front end of the 4th Gen and will make it much more up to date.

To cut costs, I'd say ditch the HIDs. Use a high beam lens and a low beam lens. I figure most guys would want a setup that has both lights lite at the same time even when the high beam isn't at full brightness to give that BMW effect. One thing that concerns me is the plastic housing cover able to withstand the heat of the light inside?

Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Now we need to convince Shadow, Cheston, someone to get together with some company and make these.

Dave, I doubt that the lenses will have a problem with the heat. If anything, there is less direct heat on the lens. Also, these lenses are made of acrylic, which can withstand some pretty high temperatures before they burn.

I think that if good instructions are listed, with some thought put into re-producability, most enthusiasts can make these themsleves with some basic tools, adhesive/sealant, and a Dremel.

Re: Some options >>

Those look sweet, I would definatly be interested if they offered improved visibility and the price was reasonable. Can someone tell me the difference between HIDs and Projectors, I really don't know much about headlights.

300-400 hours , can that be right? Thats over a month straight at 8 hours a day 5 days a week or at $20 an hour over $6000 in labor costs

Would the non-HIDs still be an improvement over the stock lights (for visibility)? Could you just use a non-HID high beam for some cost savings or is most of the cost in the other HID equipment?

I was thinking that you could go out and but the headlights off a j30 and take the lense off of it, and mold it to the lense we have on our cars, that would be the easiest way to do it, it's not that simple but it could work if you took your time, once I get my tax return I am going to try this

HID systems use high intensity arc discharge bulbs. A projector is a type of housing. Both HID or halogen bulbs can operate in a projector "environment"...as opposed to a paraboloid/free-form reflector environment.

I wouldn't worry about the labor...I think all those costs are considered "developmental" costs or "non-recurring engineering" costs.

Yes. Non-HIDs like the Hella units sold at Susquehanna will be improvements over the stock 9004/HB1 setup.

Ill buy those in a second, but only if its non-hid, cause I cant afford HID. Some corner light replacements would be a nice touch if we could get some made....

Shirtboy, I have been lookin into this. What exact parts did you use, like which exact HID kit, which exact Hella, etc. I am very interested in this. I have a 97-99 headlamp sitting around that I may experiment with. Thanks guy.

Damn...

Those are some hot headlights. But do you think the black backing will look cheap because we are all so used to chrome? I know the chrome would be REALLY expensive to mold and shape and I'm not saying go with it, but do you think the black will look good or plain ont he front of a Maxima? Also, can somebody photoshop those on a Max? (Where are you gtr_rider!?!?!)
