Thank God for the Rev limiter

I was doing a lot of driving today in my 97 SE and took off around a blind corner of PCH. I had my eye on the cars around me while I gunned it and didn't how fast my car now revs. I felt a tug on the car and realized I had overrevved the car. The needle swung back to the 7,000 mark and I threw it into 2nd gear. I'm glad there was no damage to my car and my engine didn't blow or anything. I just lost major rotational mass on my car and never realized how fast my car now is. I lost 3 pounds on the rotors, 5 pounds on the calipers, 2 pounds on the crankshaft pulley, and 8 pounds on the wheels. I'm loving these SSR Integrals...just gotta remember the car revs fast now.

Your lucky. It would have stunk to here the boom and then the dreaded silence of your engine blown.

I don't have the benefits of the rims yet (or the UDP) but I've compensated with the 'pump'

Yep... bounced off that rev limiter all too much the first 2 week after the install.

I believe it's at about 6,550 or so... redline? though the needle will bounce past it.

Cheston... I already bought an RPM activated switch... just got to get the rpm pill. Shifting sucks (no I don't want an auto )

You can easily push the engine into 7,000 RPM, but I think the limiter kicks in at 7,400 or so. It'll take you back down to 6,500 in the blink of an eye. I'm so glad I didn't screw anything up.

I thought our engines stopped priducing power just a bit before redline anyhow?

Yeah, it does, but if you check a dyno plot and run it thru the gear ratios, you'll find that even with its lost output, the VQ motor still produces more power in 1st at red-line than 2nd at 4krpms or so. Same goes for 2nd to 3rd gear shifts. From 3 to 4 is when you start to shift lower down the rpm scale. Since its is still close in 3rd, you may have a tendency to go over, especially when you're caught up in race. I know I've hit the limiter twice. It feels like ****, but its only a feul cut, so it cant be too harmful.
